    Replace 4 wire analogue thermostat

Thanks Mr Therm. Does the Switched go to B or C on the DT90?

    Replace 4 wire analogue thermostat

I want to replace this old Honeywell stat with a digital stat (Honeywell DT90). Old stat has 4 wires (I’m assuming these are Live-Red, Switched Live-Red, Neutral-Black and Earth-Yellow/Green). Earth is isolated and others are connected, I think, to Terminal 1=Live, T4=empty, T3=Switched Live...

    Water damaged textured plaster

Thanks It will be older than 2000. I know I am covered, but I don’t like claiming if it’s not necessary. Sounds like I’ll have to though as this is in a large room and likely to cost a fair amount.

    Water damaged textured plaster

Water leak (found and fixed) has damaged plaster on textured ceiling (see image below). I’m no plasterer. How should I fix it? Could I get some glue behind it and press back to ceiling? Blistered plaster is brittle. Not sure if it is plaster or some other substance that might soften (e.g...

    Routing (Virgin) cable round house

Thanks Lucid I suppose there's only one way to find out :) One further thought - if in future I ditch Virgin and go back to terrestrial, is it possible to use the Virgin cable to connect to the standard aerial or would I have to replace the cable again - just in case the co-ax and Virgin...

    Routing (Virgin) cable round house

Considering having Virgin TV and broadband. Want TV in 3 rooms. House is traditional construction. Rooms all have TV co-ax outlets with cables to loft, including the one that Virgin will make first connection to. I don't want cable wrapped around my house. I know Virgin will supply cable I...

Cannot replace entire floor with ply

I want to replace floorboards with ply prior to tiling bathroom but cannot replace entire area to be Tiled because of where joists fall. At the door to the bathroom I'd be left with about 300 mm of original floorboard. Can anyone see a problem with this from the tiling perspective? i.e. Would...

    Thin stud wall for shower

Yes, we've looked into glass, but, one, it's expensive and, two, there's a bath backing onto the other side of the wall. Glass wall would leave a 40mm gap between glass and bath, which is not enough to get behind to clean and not sure it would look that good either.

    Thin stud wall for shower

Have updated post to correct and include dimensions - wall needs to be 50mm thick finished (not 25mm) as previously stated.

    Thin stud wall for shower

I've found posts similar to this, but not exactly as I need, so please bear with me. I need to construct a stud wall no more than 50mm thick, finished, including plasterboard and skim one side, Aquapanel the other. It will form a side wall to a shower enclosure (2400mm high x 800mm wide x...

Choosing concealed closer for fire door

There are cheaper versions around, but you need to be sure that they meet the regulations. One, which I'd rather not name, is made in China and makes some less than substantiated claims regarding Approved Document M. The 'Perkomatic' that you talk about is, in fact, called Powermatic. It's...

    Couple fire door questions

Guys I've picked this up a bit late, but the issue of slamming with door closers is because chain linked closers are uncontrolled closing devices. The Perko name has become generic for these types of closer, although it is actually a trade name for a product manufactured by Samuel Heath...

    Sleeper wall against drive edge

I'm building a very low (250mm) sleeper wall to retain a border that slopes down to a drive. The drive is tarmac and has concrete edging stones around it which are set and haunched in concrete. I need to remove the concrete haunching to make room for the sleepers, but cannot remove the edging...
