I'm building a very low (250mm) sleeper wall to retain a border that slopes down to a drive. The drive is tarmac and has concrete edging stones around it which are set and haunched in concrete.
I need to remove the concrete haunching to make room for the sleepers, but cannot remove the edging stones as they are part of the wider landscaping scheme).
Question is, should I butt the sleepers right up against the edging stones and build the concrete up behind the sleepers or would it be better to have some (say 25mm width) concrete between the stones and the sleepers and then more behind the sleepers?
