Right angle in cable run - is this OK?

Thanks all. Having read all of that, I think the position is that what he has done is not compliant unless: 1. The chimney Breast is treated as a wall and so its corners treated like external corners; and 2 the vertical cable is no more than 150mm from the edge of the chimney. I'll measure it...

Right angle in cable run - is this OK?

No, the only thing going on that chimney breast is a socket (cable coming up from the floor) and an aerial point (cable coming down from the ceiling). Before I challenge the electrician - there is no way this is OK, is there?

Right angle in cable run - is this OK?

I'm having my house renovated. I came home and saw this. The right angle run is for a socket on the wall. Is this OK? I thought you could only run cables in straight horizontal or vertical lines. This looks obviously dangerous to me, but is it compliant with the regs? (FYI, the chase down from...

DPM underlay for engineered wood flooring over wooden subfloor?

Thanks. I've called all of the local companies I can find, but nothing. Getting a bit desperate now.

DPM underlay for engineered wood flooring over wooden subfloor?

Hi all I need to install an engineered wood floor this weekend. Timing is critical - it has to start tomorrow. It's engineered wood flooring, being installed over a plywood subfloor. The room has a lot of built-in furniture (about 1/3 of the room) and I'm not installing flooring there. I want...

High-gloss sheet material cut to size?

Hi all Does anybody know where I can buy high-gloss sheet material? Ideally, cut to size and edged? I want some high-gloss wood-effect end panels for my kitchen and I’m struggling to find anything. I can get some veneered MR MDF panels cut to size and edged and then apply a finish, but that...

please help me find the right part so I can use my DW

So, the fourth plumber basically agreed with you guys. He said that there is no way that the setup I have should be overflowing, and that there must be a blockage or some uphill section somewhere causing a problem. He drilled a hole in the side of the house and re-routed the waste, and it all...

please help me find the right part so I can use my DW

Thanks. I agree, I'm amazed that it's causing an overflow. It's like something from a horror show - I sit there for an hour waiting for it to drain... then slowly, foam starts to rise and bubble out... then the water just pours out. I've got another plumber (4th one!) coming around to see...

please help me find the right part so I can use my DW

Hi all. I'm at my wit's end with this. I did the same as the picture shown, but it leaked. I got a plumber in, who attached the DW waste to one of the standpipes with one of these: http://www.screwfix.com/p/washing-machine-drain-out-kit/75883?_requestid=143663 It leaked. (I'd asked two...

What certificate do I need for my bathroom electrics?

One other thing.... I was getting concerned about the extra sockets I'd added in an upstairs bedroom, and my failure to get a minor works certificate for this. Out of curiosity I had a look at these "part P" courses. The first one I found happily tells me this: What do the changes, from April...

What certificate do I need for my bathroom electrics?

An update on this: I spoke to the builder. He was surprised it was notifiable but said not to worry, he would get the electrician to notify through his scheme. He said there was nothing for me to do, the scheme would tell the council and they would send me the relevant docs. This seemed fine...

Are my wall units going to fall down?

Thanks. I am genuinely tempted to try that! I do tend to over-engineer these things. Last time I did a kitchen I actually bolted the wall units to the wall by drilling huge holes and fixing some threaded rod in to them with resin anchor. They were proper solid - each fixing easily supported...

Are my wall units going to fall down?

I recently installed my kitchen and I'm worrying a bit about the wall units on one wall. The wall had been plasterboarded (dot and dab). Rather than trying to attach the the wall units to the plasterboard, I cut out a horizontal channel in the plasterboard and attached a wooden batten to the...

Actually, books are subject to VAT, but at 0%. If you are a publisher, it really matters.

What certificate do I need for my bathroom electrics?

Thanks. I'll speak to the builder and thrash it out with him. I'm sure he's one of the good guys - I've been impressed with his work and dedication so far, so I'm sure we can work out how to deal with the situation. Of course I may have it all wrong and he's had his electrician do all the work...

What certificate do I need for my bathroom electrics?

Thanks That has to be the correct answer. You guys have helped me confirm that the work is notifiable, so it has to be notified. I did NOT do this as part of the notification to building control, so it HAS to be done through a Competent Person Scheme now (and this is what I thought would...

What certificate do I need for my bathroom electrics?

Out of interest, is there anything I can do (outside of contract law) to force the builder to give me a certificate if he is difficult about it? As the contractor doing the work, does he have any responsibility for ensuring that the regs etc are complied with or does it all lie with me? My guess...

What certificate do I need for my bathroom electrics?

Thanks. The notification really did not focus on the bathroom, we just showed that we were moving a few walls. I'm not even going to pretend that they could guess that there would be electrical work done within the zones. And, as i said, I told BC that any electrical work would be notified...
