Replacing ceiling rose with new fitting with L/N/E connector

Actually... yes I probably could. I can certainly use wago connectors for that as it would be accessible; and they are tiny. I might well be able to do it that way! That's plan A. If Plan A doesn't work, then you are right - that is what I will have to do. No point in hoping that there is a...

Replacing ceiling rose with new fitting with L/N/E connector

Thank you... but I'm not sure it gets me any closer to solving my problem? Here is a picture of the new light fitting (well, the wires anyway. The light fitting itself is very elegant but you will have to take my word for it). I imagine putting these in to one end of some wago connectors...

Replacing ceiling rose with new fitting with L/N/E connector

Thanks. Yes, that is exactly what I have currently. As I understand it, it is a typical ceiling rose for a light in the middle of a lighting circuit.

Replacing ceiling rose with new fitting with L/N/E connector

Hi all. I'll start by saying that this question is covered in the wiki, but as that answer makes reference to red and black wires and seems to contradict what I understand are the requirements as regards inaccessible connections, so I thought I'd check. Anyway... I'm replacing a simple...

    Refurbishing Old Doors?

Sorry to hijack this, but I had all the doors in my house dipped and stripped a while ago. It's a 1930s house and I'm only the second owner: the previous guy was 100 when he died and lived there since his 20s. He loved to cover stuff up with hardboard, which I think is fantastic because it's all...

Solid wood kitchen worktop to make bathroom vanity? Stupid?

Thanks again, this is really helpful. I spoke to my builder about it this morning. He says he often has to build bespoke pieces for bathrooms and they often contain wood. He uses a guy who builds cabinets for kitchens and bathrooms: he says that this guy can spray on a suitable finish. I've...

Solid wood kitchen worktop to make bathroom vanity? Stupid?

Wow - what a response. Thank you. A few follow-up questions: you say "I can but agree". Is that you agreeing to it being a really bad idea?! As regards the finish: thank you, that is really, really specific. My concern is that it sounds like it requires a lot more skill than I have. I'm...

Solid wood kitchen worktop to make bathroom vanity? Stupid?

Evening all I'm having the bathroom refurbished in two weeks. I left the wife in charge of buying all of the furniture. She's done a good job, but there is one problem. She has her heart set on a great big countertop basin. We've got quite a modest bathroom (2.5m x 1.8m) so I'm not too...

Why does my RCD keep tripping?

Thanks for that, very interesting. I guess I'm a bit concerned now that this did NOT happen in my last house when I was doing the same sort of thing! Anyway, I'll just put one of those orange lever-arm wago clips on the neutral cables while I'm working for now, that should stop it happening...

Why does my RCD keep tripping?

I think it's loop-in i.e. the power and switch cables go directly to the ceiling roses rather than junction boxes in the ceiling. It is just that light that flickers.

Why does my RCD keep tripping?

I mentioned in another thread that I had a rewire done last year and my electrician had done a few things that in hindsight appear a bit odd. I've got two other electrical issues too, and just wanted to run these past the people on here. I apologise in advance if the terminology I'm using here...

    cooker hood wiring

Thank you. This is an eminently sensible idea and clearly a better plan. I'll ask the electrician to go with that. The switched fuse was always going to be visible anyway on the other side of the kitchen - I've got no problem with these things being visible - switches are far more useful if...

    cooker hood wiring

The cable is surface-mounted because it all runs within the chimney of the cooker hood, and the switch is situated within the chimney of the cooker hood too. I don't want the electrician making mess and costing money chasing out a run for a cable and socket that you won't see anyway. I agree...

    cooker hood wiring

A bit of a tangent, but is there any problem in fitting a socket hidden in an extractor fan chimney? I plan to have one high on the wall, hidden by the hood which extends to the ceiling. The socket is fed by a surface-mounted cable in trunking, which drops from the ceiling (it's actually a spur...

Using a wall switch to control sthg plugged in to a socket

Thanks all. The lights do revert to their last setting if the power is turned off and then back on again. Those remote control switches look good and as I just need one I might go for it despite the cost. EDIT: Just realised you need both units, which puts the cost at about £100. I think...

Using a wall switch to control sthg plugged in to a socket

Thanks. The remote does let me turn them on and off, but as all I ever use the remote for is turning the lights on and off I'd much rather just have a normal wall switch to operate it. Not only would it make the lights feel a bit more "permanent", but it would also mean I could turn them on when...

Using a wall switch to control sthg plugged in to a socket

Hi all I've got some LED lights on top of a wardrobe in my bedroom. They plug in to a normal socket, and are controlled by a remote control device that lets you select the colour etc. I love them, but 99% of the time they are on warm white and I'd much rather just have a normal switch on the...
