    Arctic Flex

Hi, From what I have been reading on the forum, I need to upgrade the wiring for my 3 x 150 w security lights which are fed from the garage lighting circuit. I plan to use 3 x Ashley J501 16 Amp Downlighter Junction Boxes inside garage fed by 1.5mm t&e, with 1.5mm arctic flex between each...

Washing Machine & Tumble Drier in Same socket

I thought it worth posting the set up I have in my utility room to highlight the dangers of putting a w/m & t/d in the same double 13amp socket, and not taking professional advice from an electrician. I used to have just the w/m in the utility but got a plumber to alter it so the drier could...

    current capacity of spur socket

No fuses - just dp switches What I'm not sure about is whether the double socket might be overloaded - rectified by the singles - or the supply cable overloaded. Or just the fact that you cant have 2 singles on a non fused spur?

    current capacity of spur socket

Out of interest, I have seen a washing machine and tumble drier plugged into a double socket, contolled above the worktop from a tenby grid switch. Would it be acceprtable to change the double socket to 2 singles in a dual box, with one switch receiving a supply from the isolator, then...

    Swa earthing/termination

Thanks for your speedy replies. Sounds quite tricky. At the shed, I have done the same - just cut the armour a bit short then run the 3 core and sheath into a 6 cm bit of plastic conduit to the fcu. Other posts have mentioned earthing at supply end but it would be easier for me to wire...

    Swa earthing/termination

I have my shed connected to house by3 x 2.5 mm swa in to a 13amp fcu in house which is rcd protected at the cu. This terminates in shed to another 13 amp fcu which supplies a twin socket, and then a 3 amp fused connection unit for light ( all latter switches and boxes metal). My only...

    Consumer Unit Safety

Thanks for all that. For clarification. I could turn off the main switch and work with care in the consumer unit once I have checked all is dead? I assume that the CU main switch should isolate the neutral too? When you say the meter is single pole, what does that mean - does it mean when...

    Consumer Unit Safety

I have an MK consumer unit. If I switch off the main switch, I am ok to rewire my garage lighting circuit, which feeds from the consumer unit from a dedicated mcb? i.e to work safely in the mcb with the lives and neutrals OR Should/can I switch the supply off at the meter, which has a...

    Attic Lights

Upgrading lights in attic. Existing lights consist of 1 flourescent tube and 1 pendant, with the switched lives twisted together in L1. Should 1 of these go in L2, or does it not matter? Or does L2 do something different from L1? Lights at other ends of attic so thats why there are 2...

    Security Lights

Hi, I want to put a couple of security lights up on side of my house. I have worked out how to continue my upstairs lighting circuit to supply the lights. 2 questions: If I do this, can I wire these lights together ie wire light 1 to the isolator switch, then wire light 2 to light 1? I am...
