    Ideal Classic rattling and banging

OK, maybe I've been approaching this wrong - as it had suddenly started banging my first assumption was something was going wrong in the bolier. However, the questions you have raised seem to backup up other inconsistancies in the heating system. I've actually got a few previous posts on...

    Ideal Classic rattling and banging

I have two rads on normal valves and they are both open. "Check also the pump is pumping correctly, and that the banging doesn't coincide with the hot water reaching temperature" How can I check when the water is hot? I can hear the pump in the airing cupboard working so dont think it...

    Ideal Classic rattling and banging

Thanks Difficult to say as we have thermostatic rad valves so once they heat up they shut off. I will check if header tank is hot. Any other diagnostics I can do?

    Ideal Classic rattling and banging

I have an ideal classic boiler in my kitchen. It works OK but has recently started really rattling and banging. This is transmitting to the pipes and rattling pipes throughout the whole house. It sounds to me like the noise a moving part i.e. pump would make if failing. From looking at the...

Lofty whole home ventilation system - any good?

Thanks. I have even had a builder out and he checked the roofspace i.e. soffits and it looks OK. No insulation blocking it. However, cold water pipes and tanks are probably not as lagged as they should be. Not something I've ever thought of - why does this cause problems? I'd be interested...

Lofty whole home ventilation system - any good?

Still having problems with condensation and have come back to these units as a possible solution. Initially dismissed them as they seemed to be extortionate for what they were, and also didn't know how good they were. If anyone has used them are they worth the money? Do they do the job? Are...

    shallow depth dimmer switches

Success I think. Found another post which told me the depth of box I have must be 16mm. Search for dimmer and 16mm and a few things come back. This one looks like it could be OK...

    shallow depth dimmer switches

Thanks All. I could maybe go for one of them, but sadly they only do a double switch, and it does seem overkill. I'll keep looking for now I think - somebody must do one.

    shallow depth dimmer switches

Just bought a dimmer from the local warehouse but on removing the old normal switch I only have a very thin back box. It is only plaster deep, and has brick behind it. Dont want to start chasing into the brick and putting new back box in - does anyone know of any thin/shallow dimmer switches...

    Garden flooding

That weed proof membrain stuff. Water drains through it though.

    Garden flooding

Nobody else got any ideas? Would this be better in the gardens section?

    Garden flooding

Thanks. That might be a bit of a red herring though - as the soil was the same height as the driveway I doubt we'd have noticed it if it was flooded. No matter how heavy it rains, it never seems to flood above the height of the driveway.

    Garden flooding

We have been having a bit of trouble with our front flower bed flooding. Obviously it has been worse of late, but has done this ever since we put the gravel down. I dont think it did this previously, but I could be wrong. When it rains heavy it will flood for a good few hours. It normally...

    Self Adhesive wallpaper border

Thanks. I understand what you are saying and have passed your concerns on the the missus. Needless to say we are still going ahead with it :) We'll probably always wallpaper that room anyway I suppose so can hopefully hide any mess we make taking it off. Going back to how to do it, is it...

    Self Adhesive wallpaper border

Has anyone got any tips on putting one of these up, or a link to a guide. Am doing one for our nursery over the weekend and I'm a bit worried about getting it to go on level and without any creases or air bubbles. I've never wallpapered in my life either so have never done anything like...

Which dimmer switch for quiet buzz-free operation

Thanks. I suppose I'd better re-phrase my earlier comment about being prepared to pay a bit extra. £30 for the IQ ones seems a bit more than I meant. Any other ideas anyone?

Which dimmer switch for quiet buzz-free operation

I (my wife!) want to get a dimmer switch for our nursery. I've heard from people that these can buzz quite a lot, and it seems to be pot luck whether you get a quiet one or not. Can anyone recommend a decent make/supplier that will be quiet/flicker free in operation. I dont mind paying a bit...

    Wood floor filler tips please!!!

Colorfill - its used for worktop joints but they also do wood floor stuff too. Use the floor stuff rather than the kitchen worktop stuff though. Wickes sell it.

    Patchy Grout and colour mismatch

Turns out I was given the wrong sort of flexible additive for this grout. The company concerned have been very good though, and are sorting it for me (regrouting it) Thanks for your advise though all.

    Patchy Grout and colour mismatch

Thanks. I've been warned that although the colour is good, it is acrilyc based so the texture doesn't always look right. Not sure what this means. I'll try on a test piece first. They still reckon the best route is to rake it out, but I cant really bring myself to do it if I'm honest.
