    Bathroom Floor TIling - plywood

Thanks for your advice. I was hoping to get away with slightly thinner wood. Is there a reason 15mm is the minimum? What problems would 12mm cause?

    silicone sealent around downlights

We have GU10 downlights in our bathroom. Unfortunately the electrician has drilled the holes in the ceiling ever so slightly too big for the downlights, so when they are on you can see the light coming through between the plasterboard ceiling and the light fitting. I was thinking of putting a...

    Damp problem ??

Thanks, When I said replastering it was actually only skimmed, so the original plaster would have been left behind. Not sure if this is relevent. You are also correct in assuming it was plastered with the skirting boards in place. The plaster was from B and Q and was a combination of...

    Damp problem ??

We seem to have a small damp patch that has appeared recently. I'm not sure how long it has been there as we normally have this corner of the room covered by an armchair, and prior to plastering it was wallpapered. Paste the following links into a web browser for photos...

    Stop Silicone Sealant from sticking?

"id try n find some tiles too match and retile beyond the panel " No can do - the tiles are quite thick and the panel will not fit in place. I have to bend the panel to remove it as it is. Plus, I'd end up with a jagged end on the panel if I trimmed it? Any more ideas?

    Bathroom Floor TIling - plywood

I am about to tile our bathroom floor and use underfloor heating. It is wooden floorboards currently so I am about to lay some plywood as a base. Can anyone tell me the minimum thickness I can get away with, and also whether I am better off with tongue and grooved loft boards?? I'm a bit...

    Stop Silicone Sealant from sticking?

Might sound like a silly question but.... I have a bath panel which meets a tiled wall. The tiles are cut to curve around the shape of the bath panel, but aren't particularly neat. I'd therefore like to silcone between the bath panel (vertical edge at end of bath) and the tiles, whilst still...

    Part P signed off

Thanks Guys, That has clarified things a bit. What I wasn't sure of was whether it was a case of it was OK if the Bonding was OK full stop, or whether ALL work in a special location including bonding required certification. I couldn't work out from the working whether the terms were ANDs or...

    Part P signed off

Sorry, I find it so ambiguous. I've even spoken to mt local building regs department and they dont seem to know any more than me. Is there a qualified electrician who has been trained on this and knows it inside out that can tell me: a) if I replace a bathroom suite and hence the earth...

    Part P signed off

Thanks again, but I'm truly baffled. Its a complete minefield - how do the govenment expect the general public to adhere to all this, when trade people seem to give contradicting advice all the time. The guy who did my spotlights said he was able to sign them off, and at the end when I asked...

    Part P signed off

Thanks, but I get more and more confused by Part P by the day. My understanding was that you could do as much electrical work as you like, as long as it is signed off afterwards by an electrician or your local council. The book I bought certainly says this. How is all this working in...

    Part P signed off

We had our house rewired a year or so ago and all signed off with Part P. I have since done some minor work and will be doing some more - spotlights in the bathroom, refitting bathroom suite and earth bondings, and probably underfloor heating in the near future. How much would an electrician...

RCD fuse box tripping out problem

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I was just a bit concerned the individual switches should be tripping out. Sounds to be working as planned though.

RCD fuse box tripping out problem

We had our house rewired last year and have an RCD circuit breaker box, with various switches in it for the various circuits. Our washing machine is a bit iffy and occasionally trips the electric out, and will be replaced in the near future. The thing that I am unsure of though is that...

Spotlights - Low voltage or 240V

Thanks guys. As long as the bathroom lighting doesn't have to be on a diffeerent RCD to the rest of the upstairs lighting it sounds like I am fine.

Spotlights - Low voltage or 240V

Thanks. And to confirm once more its OK if the RCD covers the whole upstairs lighting circuit, not just the bathroom spots? I just want to make sure everything is set up OK for when I get the council out in the future. Cheers

Spotlights - Low voltage or 240V

Thanks for everyone's input. Can anyone answer the question as to whether this will be signed off by the council for Part P. To recap - 6 GU10s. 2 specially sealed ones over the bath. No dedicated RCD, connected directly to lighting circuit, but connected via an RCD downstairs in the...

Spotlights - Low voltage or 240V

Is that a problem then? They are approved for zone 1, or whatever it is called.

Spotlights - Low voltage or 240V

2 are over the bath, but are sealed units. The others aren't and are normal spots. As for an RCD they are just wired in to the normal lighting circuit, without an individual RCD, however this whole lighting circuit is wired into a RCD terminal box downstairs. Is that good enough or has this...

Spotlights - Low voltage or 240V

We have installed 6 downlight spotlights in our bathroom. They are the 240V (GU10 I think) type rather than the low voltage, as our electrician said the low voltage ones weren't very reliable. We are not hugely impressed by the amount of light given off, especially as we are burning 300watts...
