Electric heating 3 meters tariffs no one supports it

My mum's just received a letter from EON saying they no longer support her tariff and she will be put on to a single rate for all 3 meters. This will result in her bill going from £1000 a year to nearly £3000 a year. We've tried ringing around and none of the energy suppliers seems to either...

    garden irrigation pump

I'm part way through installing a 4000 litre rain water tank, but due to location constrains i've only managed to get the bottom of the tank about 750mm off the ground, so I've not got a huge amount of pressure. It's fine for filling a watering can and i've plumbed in a couple of stand pipes in...

zone control using 2 port valves

Thanks Slippyr4, i'll try a slower pump speed as it's set on 2 at the moment, so i can slow it down to 1 and re-balance the system. One of the reasons I've gone for cast iron column rads is they hold the heat better than the pressed steel ones. Having lots of windows, all single glazed Crittle...

zone control using 2 port valves

The whole system is balanced including the HW and i re-checked it after swapping the TRV's in case it upset anything. But even if the rads are completely unbalanced, when the TRV sensor head detects the room is at the correct temperature or above, it should shut and stop flow through the rad...

zone control using 2 port valves

Ok so Friday I went out and brought 3 new Drayton TRV4's from screwfix and fitted them all to the flow side of the 3 radiators in the dining room. All the rads are less than a year old and when i drained them to switch the vales water ran out clean so i know they are not blocked with sludge. 1...

zone control using 2 port valves

As I've obviously gone wrong someone with this thread can i start from the beginning and ask how i should install a TRV to make sure it works correctly?

zone control using 2 port valves

Honeywells evohome system looks good at first glance but will cost around £1000 and has a limit of 12 zones. It also rely's on wireless technology which I've found to be unreliable in the past and the TRV's need battery's which will need to be changed regularly. They also look a bit clunky next...

zone control using 2 port valves

I've finally had enough of thermostatic rad valves not doing what they said. They either don't shut off fully or the temperature range is so far out they might as well not be on there. Rant over. So i'm thinking of fitting a 2 port valve on the flow to each rad and having it controlled by a...

can you just paint over lead paint

I've been told by the previous owner it was lead paint and the fact it was put up in the 1960's when it was common to use lead paint. And i don't think has been stripped and repainted since. I did look at one of those test kits but they are quite pricey and i'm 95% sure it is.

can you just paint over lead paint

I'm looking at repairing an old 1960's timber greenhouse, and the timber is all pretty solid (Cedar i think) but the paint is very flaky and pealing, it leaves white on your hands and cloths if you rub against it. Can i just paint over it with something like Zinsser 123 or B.I.N, to encapsulate...

LED flood lights glowing when off

I've just swapped 2 old halogen flood lights for LED ones. Once it was dark i tested them and noticed that when they are turned off they glow very faintly. They are wired into a separate PIR mounted approximately 1m from the light and they are also have a switch inside the house that can be used...

    TRV's won't shut off completely

Ok thanks for the advise everyone. My next question is can anyone recommend (from experience of having them installed) any traditional looking TRV's that actually have a lower frost setting that will just keep the room above freezing and not heated to 12°C. If the energy saving trust is to be...

    TRV's won't shut off completely

when you say bypass do you mean a differential bypass valve? i've got one fitted in on a branch that tee's off between the pump and the 3 port and feeds just a towel rail in the bathroom, that way the towels are dried when ever the boiler comes on so a lot in the winter and just for 20 mins in...

    TRV's won't shut off completely

The radiator furthest from the boiler, also the largest, has the lockshield fully open. This is one of the 3 which is in a room we only use occasionally. The other's are about 1/3 to 1/4 open. And the one in the main bedroom which is quite close to the boiler main feed and return, in fact i...

    TRV's won't shut off completely

Sorry brain freeze moment, the tops do come off i've checked and the pins move up and down freely and the actuator heads move down inside when you wind it down. I spoke to the manufacture and they told me they no longer do the decorators cap for those valves the new style has a different thread...

    Contactors for controlling outdoor lighting

I've originally suggested some kind of lighting control system like DALI to the customer but they quickly highlighted they have very poor WiFi and mobile data at the premises possibly due to thick stone/masonry walls blocking signals, and they had had given up on mobiles and WiFi long ago and...

    Contactors for controlling outdoor lighting

Thanks for the reply's, i think the light that is 400m away will be dropped as the cable costs are far too high. The 6 pole switch from RS is perfect and i might even go for more poles if they do it so there is spare capacity for the future. I was going to mount everything into an enclosure and...
