    Sealing MDF kitchen shelf

Hi all, An MDF shelf has been fitted just above a kitchen sink and some damage has occurred - see photo. I guess the best remedy would be to replace the MDF shelf with a wooden one, but could an effective repair be made with some kind of sealant? Maybe some of that sticky back plastic? What do...

    Dimplex Quantum or Creda TRSE?

Thanks for your input Sunray. According to the EPC documentation, any flat with a rating of 'E' or above is rentable at the mo and the average score is 60 (D). Would the government really sanction restricting this to C and above any time soon? Wouldn't such a move kill the rental sector? Also...

    Dimplex Quantum or Creda TRSE?

Thanks for the reply Flameport. Yes. The Quantum claims to be able to store 4KWH more than the Creda. Having looked at the installation manuals for both though, they seem remarkably similar. The only difference can be the insulative properties. As the heaters I am getting are oversized anyway...

    Dimplex Quantum or Creda TRSE?

Hi all, I have to make a decision as to which storage heaters to put in my rental flat. My EPC inspector recommended High Heat Retention (HHR) ones but they are very expensive compared to standard LOT20 types. As an example, the Dimplex Quantum and the Creda TRSE seem very similar if you...

Is Economy 7 worth the bother?

Thanks all. The EPC was done recently. I'll give it a look

Is Economy 7 worth the bother?

Hi all, I am about to re-carpet a flat I let out, and thought I would upgrade the storage heaters whilst about it - Dimplex Quantum seem to be the market leaders - but the more I look into, it the less sense it makes to replace with storage heaters. I think maybe some modern electric radiators...

    Dyson DC31 not working

No. But as (I guess) you were leading me to investigate potential blockages, I decided to have a look at the filter...It was missing !!! Re-installed the filter, which was sitting above the boiler where it dries after washing, and it works fine - noticed there's a wee microswitch which prevents...

    Dyson DC31 not working

Hi, I've got an inoperable DC31. Nothing happens when I pull the trigger. Not even the little green light scomes on. When I place it on its charging station the little green light (on the charging station) comes on and goes off again after a short while. I have measured the output from the...

    Plasterboard wall fixings

No. It's good to know the truth. That's why I post on this forum. Thing is, I've already bought the radiators and 3 of them are up already (rawlplugged into brick). My research suggests the 'shear strength' of the screw in type of anchor I referenced above is around 7.5 kg. So with 2 brackets, I...

    Plasterboard wall fixings

Oh. If it is such a wall, what are my fixing options? The 10kg oil-filled radiator is supplied with 2 brackets, each having 2 screw holes aligned vertically with about an inch and a half betwen them. Would these do the trick...

    Plasterboard wall fixings

No. It is a 60mm thick internal partition wall in a flat between a kitchen and a bedroom. Looks original. I had thought to use GeeFix fittings but when I drilled the 25mm hole I found no cavity. Is ''no cavity' a normal drywall method? I

    Plasterboard wall fixings

Hi all, I have to fix a 10kg electric radiator to a wall that seems to be made entirely of plasterboard (i..e. no cavity). Which wpuld be the best fixings to achieve this? Thanks, Chris.

    Redundant flue.

Sounds great Ian. I am, of course, assuming that the walls are cavity - they are at least 10" thick so I would think this is a safe assumption - but is there any reason why leaving the outside part of the flue in place would be a bad idea?

    Redundant flue.

They are " Baxi Brizillia" heaters. If I cannot collapse the flues I guess I could get one of these and attach it to my drill...

    Redundant flue.

Thanks for your input Footprints, but I wasn't thinking of removing the flue, I was thinking of cutting the mid section of the flue out from the inside. There must be a power tool I could buy to achieve this. My thinking is that, if there is no physical conduit for rainwater to pass into the...

    Redundant flue.

Hi all, I need to hire a gasman to remove a couple of gas heaters and a plumber friend says that, if I don't also have the associated flues removed, a damp problem may occur. However, the flat is on the second floor and so outside access is a problem. I think the walls are cavity. If so, would...

    Wifi enabled homeplug

Hi all, I've recently inherited a snazzy little laptop and want to use it in my shed/office/guitar studio but the laptop doesn't have an ethernet port. I currently use an older laptop connected to a TP-LINK homeplug - this arrangement works, even though the shed TP-LINK plug and the one near the...

    Futura oil-filled wall-mounted electric radiators

Are these any good? They seem a fair bit cheaper than their competitors.

    Inherited laptop.

I don't think so. This is all I have in the BIOS screen. I simply moved Windows Boot Manager to No.6 priority and it booted from the stick.

    Inherited laptop.

Thanks for your input wgt52. No. I don't want to access my uncle's data. A fresh install would be fine..... And I've managed to do it....:LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL: The problem was to get the laptop to boot from USB. There was some kinda "secure boot" thing going on which meant I couldn't...
