    Water Butt Advice

Thanks for both of your replies. I think it is going to be difficult to make use of the existing downpipe because the garage door is in the way :( short of moving the garage door, i don't see any way around that. I can move the water butt and re-jig the guttering no problem, but wherever i...

    Water Butt Advice

Hello All, Last year i replaced the guttering on the garage roof, and took that opportunity to add a downpipe for a water butt. The guttering did run along the roof and down a iron downpipe into the ground somewhere? in my wisdom i decided to add another downpipe the other side for the...

    Adding storage to garage

I think 2x4 should be fine, planning on putting some loft boards over them which should help spread the load. Was planning on using face hangers and screwing them to the wall with a half dozen screws each, or maybe anchor bolts would be more suitable

    Adding storage to garage

done a bit of research online and found a nice table which tells me: dead loading 0.25-0.5kN/m2 (25-50kg/m2) i will need 45x145mm C16 to cover the span of 3m ... seems excessively big but i guess that span is pretty large

    Adding storage to garage

Hi all, Looking for a bit of advice regarding adding some storage to my garage (separate from the house) It has a Saltbox style roof which gives a lot of 'wasted' space above the garage door (taller end) which I would like to use for storage of some general tat (camping gear, a few garden...

    footings for block shed

I've been on the case with this project again and it seems that my designed footing of 450mm is vastly overkill! from this blog: http://www.beardmorebros.co.uk/website%20pages/how%20to/build_garage.htm he built an entire garage with only 300mm depth around the edges!

    Induction hobs and touch controls.

i got my induction hob about 2 years ago from IKEA (the cheapest 4-ring they did) was about £250 and is a re-badged Whirlpool (says so on the label) The touch controls are pretty good i think, fairly quick and I haven't had a problem seeing them in the sun. Although whether or not you can see...

What To Do With This Front Garden Wall ?

Thanks for your message. I had considered rendering the whole thing but, i don't really like the way it looks, a bit too modern for me, that's why i thought about keeping the pillars, to break up the blandness a bit. On closer inspection a lot of the mortar between the blocks looks cracked, so...

What To Do With This Front Garden Wall ?

So I've been thinking recently i'd like to do something with my road-facing front garden wall, but i'm stuck for feasable ideas. As were on the corner its about 19m long in total so rebuilding it is out of the question. The blocks are in fair shape, just need a good wash but structurally...

    Exposed Aggregate Path

Thanks for such a detailed reply! I'm thinking of going down the route of placing the mortar in the channel, flattening it and lightly pressing the stones into the surface. I'm certainly no expert in concrete floating and mixing the stones in with the mortar sounds like a lot of faff to get...

    Exposed Aggregate Path

I'm looking at making a new path in my garden and wanted something a little different to concrete or paving slabs. I've discovered a style of stones set in mortar which (i think) looks rather nice and would be ideal for the style of garden swmbo is trying to create, something like these...

    " New Shed"

i'm embarking on a similar project in the coming months. I've opted for concrete block construction with a rendering over the top painted to a yet to be decided colour, with an off the shelf window and door. Wood maybe easier to work but will it last as long and be as secure as concrete (im...

    Resonable Quote for this?

luckily this one gives you an indicative price, you do have to 'apply' for a proper quote but i've always found it to be close enough. If you go to a big window / door company prepare to double / triple the price
