Where can I buy old looking plug sockets - matt black?

I'm doing up a converted church and want to change the cheapy standard plug sockets for something older looking. Everywhere only seems to sell modern, shiny, black ones. Ideally I would want cast iron look, matt black. I'm also after ones with fuses for various things in the kitchen and...

Oak Internal Stable Door - where to buy?

Yep, thinking thats the way ahead. Considering buying a planked style internal door and getting a chippy to make it into a stable door - reckon I can get one from Howdens for about £65.

Oak Internal Stable Door - where to buy?

Sort of a strange request.... I have an airing cupboard that the bottom half is unusable (due to a split level flat) I want to put a chair in front of it and still have acess to the top half so was thinking a stable door would do the trick. Problem is all the stable doors I can find...

Aware of heat reducing - I'm going to fit heat reflector to get the best out of it I can - I'm going up a church building and the rads look really out of place!

Radiator cover touching radiator...is it a fire risk?

Just bought a radiator cover but its a really tight fit. Bit worried that it might be a fire hazard. What do you reckon. If it makes any difference the cover is from screwfix. http://www.screwfix.com/prods/85344/Building/Joinery/Radiator-Cabinet-Med-White-W1198-x-D200-x-H900mm and...

Bu**ger - drilled through wire - what next?

definately no clues that there was a wire! My wire detector did pick it up (afterwards  ) Took me a while to figure out what 'clip to wall' meant (I assume you mean the wire nailed to concrete) - the clips do mean I cannot pull up a bit of slack to play with.

Bu**ger - drilled through wire - what next?

Good answers people. I hacked the 'box' out to have a look. Only the fuse for the lounge lights tripped so everything else still on. I only have one of the crappy wire crimpers - I assume I can get half decent ones (like pictured) from B&Q? Nothing on their website....just found one at...

Bu**ger - drilled through wire - what next?

Whilst attempting to place up hooks for 'guitar hero' guitars I drilled through this and was plunged into darkness. I have not turned the power back on (assume I can't) To repair it what's my best? There's not much slack in the wire.... Can I just split the wire - wrap up in...

Cooker extraction - can I use original ducting??

I've just bought one of these..... http://www.luxairhoods.com/index.pl?c=SSHOODBLACK Max extraction is.... 'Capacity Max Setting (CBM/H) 550' It specifies in the installation manual that I have to use 125mm ducting and not the original ducting or 100mm ducting or warranty is invalid...

Storing screws n' bits n' bobs - what to use

I picked up one the the second ones in Costco this weekend but ran out of space so put it back. They were half the B&Q price!! They might be my answer - the compartments are all individual and removable as well (ie you can just take a tub of screws) Hmmm...can I sneak a few of them past...

Storing screws n' bits n' bobs - what to use

At the moment I live in complete DIY chaos and its driving me nuts not being able to find anything. I'm looking for a cheap and easy way of organising myself and was wondering what you all do to store and sort stuff. I need - decent quality screw style storage boxes, portable, compact...

New 'old' light with no earth - just choc up earth?

I suppose I could get a ring crimp attachment and just put it round the screws that are holding the light to the wall (and touching the metal light). Sounds like a plan to me - thanks all....off to maplins to buy the crimps!

New 'old' light with no earth - just choc up earth?

Any recommendations on how I can secure the wire to it. I only have a basic soldering iron - not sure thats man enough to hold a bolt onto the steel. Is liquid metal OK? Does it conduct? These lights have no symbols on them - i reckon they are far too old for that!

New 'old' light with no earth - just choc up earth?

I have some very old steel light fittings that I want to put up. They have no earth - do I just choc up the earth cable? The lights are steel and the wall wire is 'twin and earth' type (I think thats the right name!) - ie the earth wire has no insulation around it. The previous person...

What bathroon extractor? In-line at 45 degrees possible?

Hmmm...I'm not sure what I'm looking for?! Are they build into extractors? Found this.... http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/BGCT.html Certainly nothing like that in my attic - would one help? If I were to drill a hole on my pipe in the attic and fit one where could I drain the...

How to do three wood steps?

I have successfully floated my solid oak planks in one room and next is the hall. My challenge in here is the three steps... I've done lots of googling and am getting several different methods. The floor planks will be 90 degrees to the stairs so I am assuming that I need to fit a...

What bathroon extractor? In-line at 45 degrees possible?

What bathroon extractor? In-line at 45 degrees possible?

My Bathroom fan has finally died, it has always been rubbish and I wanted to replace it with the best (sensibly priced) extractor I could. Old one was roof mounted external one, feeding plastic 4 inch pipe. After reading on here that if possible an in-line one is better I went to screwfix...
