I have successfully floated my solid oak planks in one room and next is the hall.

My challenge in here is the three steps...

I've done lots of googling and am getting several different methods.

The floor planks will be 90 degrees to the stairs so I am assuming that I need to fit a threshold to transfer to the stair planks.

I have found these options - the one I prefer visually is the first one but I am concerned about shaping the wood and that my planks are pre-varnished so might be difficult to match.

I'm on a tight budget so am trying to do it myself but if its not sensible I will get help in - anyone ideas of what this would cost to get someone to do?

My local floor shop is either floors-2-go or

I have been to floors to go but was not really confident with their stuff (all thresholds plastic with veneer) - not tried the other yet.

Is it easy?!

Personally speaking I would fit parrallel to the steps and rout a nosing on the front of the tread leaving a 15mm overhang over the riser
I wouldn't bother floating the treads but either screw and plug or glue them directly on

follow the instructions on your first link. This is the correct way to do it. However, dont cut the front of the step off. Pack the riser out.
