    Is this a safe zone?

Don't think it's hollow. From the edge that you can see there's a couple of layers of bricks with the concrete stuff on top. I've currently got a serious case of optical illusion going on now. Everything in the kitchen is sloping one way, that's the ceiling, floor, worktop brickwork joins. It...

    Is this a safe zone?

I agree with Ricicle, Davy and RF and ColJack too (socket could be better positioned). The reason the sockets are like that is that a 3m worktop just reaches to where the upper socket is. Also the low down socket is on the boundary of solid floor and wooden floor. I wanted the upper socket to be...

    Is this a safe zone?

You're right about the door. Should just be able to clear the hinges by about eighth of an inch if I use 9.5mm board bonded to the brick. Will box round the pipes and tile/wallpaper over. Not had to do much backbox sinking as the tile/plasterboard/orignal plaster combo gives me over 25mm to play...

    Is this a safe zone?

The rabbit and the hedgehog did the wallpaper removal. Just need to get the cables in now for 1st fix inspection on Friday 30th. Then it will be all systems go, wall and base units will be coming out. I'll be dotting and dabbing onto the brick so the back wall should only come out by about 10mm...

    Is this a safe zone?

Will drill through the wall above the joist. You wouldn't believe the amount of dust! My wife is very understanding though, even helped me clear up afterwards.

    First fix question

Took your advice and gave BCO a call. You were right, he said the cable ends didn't have to be prepared for 1st fix inspection.

    old style fuse box

Best if you can post the make and model of your old fusebox then the pros on here can help you out. A photo would be even better.

    First fix question

BCO is coming to inspect 1st fix wiring next Friday. Do I have to cut a strip back the conductors ready for connecting to the accessories? Or just leave the T+E ends unprepared? The reason I ask is that I might not have time to prepare the ends. I plan to use plastic capping (will dot and dab...

    Powergen and DP isolators

Got my new isolator fitted yesterday. Doesn't it look good? It was United Utilities that fitted it. Took the guy two attempts! Was originally fitted about 4 inches to the left but he cut the wires too short and then had to move it to the right. Steve.

    Is this a safe zone?

Actually it's easier to chase round as the plaster is like dust. I don't have to chase into the brick as I will be plasterboarding over the lot using dot and dab. Will try and get the BCO's opinion on this. Steve.

    Is this a safe zone?

Planning to run my 6mm squared T+E oven cable in this zone. Does this qualify as a safe zone? Or do I have to drill through the wall above the RSJ and pass the cable through? Thanks in advance. Steve.

    BCO Inspection results

Fred, I spoke to my BCO today. Regarding the new CU I am fitting he said that he would inspect that at 2nd fix. He told me to wire everything up but then do not energise until he turns up and tests. He also said that if it's not right then he would place some kind of building notice on it...

    Capping nails

and does the cable need any other form of support? such as cable clips? Steve.

    Capping round bends

Yes, definitely will be in the safe zones. To be a bit clearer the cable will be 6mm squared T+E so the bend radius will be about 40mm minimum. Steve.

    Capping nails

Got some capping and capping nails. Now just need to out the two together. Should the nail go through the PVC capping or should I nail right on the edge of the capping so that the capping nail washer grips the capping. Steve.

    Capping round bends

Davy the cable will run in a chase cut in the existing plaster. I will then put plasterboard over the top. The BCO said that I should use capping (so better do as he suggests). My cable will run vertical up the wall and will then arch round (observing bending radius guidelines) through 90...

    Capping round bends

Planning on using capping over a 6mm T+E cable. OK for the straight part, but what do I do on the bends as there's a min bend radius that's quite large? Do I just not cap the bends? Don't want BCO to object. Steve.

    Crossing cables

45 A cooker switch will be there in line with the cable coming down from the ceiling. Below that and about 400mm to the side will be the CCU.
