    link to 17th edition bible?

What started me off in the first place is the new regs and the RCD protection of cables buried to shallow. I had a call about a cooker constantly tripping a split load board on the RCD side, knowing how earthy cookers can be i put it down to that but still gave the circuit the once over...

Regulation 522.6.5 (v) Im trying to find out if 20 or 25mm galvanized conduit would offer mechanical protection (its not being used as a cpc by the way)

17th edition rcd and cooker problems?

wow just been searching this forum and seen some great debates on these sort of problems. I can forsee lots of cable drops to CCU`s (without socket outlets) being re chased and galvenised conduit being employed, bushed at the top where the T+E enters, to give mechanical protection, which as i see...

17th edition rcd and cooker problems?

As most know cookers (even nearly new ones ) can cause nuisance trips on a 30mA RCD,so most cooker circuits were placed on the non RCD protected side of the split load unit but 17th Edition regs say most (if not all circuits) will need RCD protection. How do we face this problem if cookers are...

    Earthing metal capping?

Cheers Spark I must have misread an article in my NIC update  I thought it said 2008 regs now require cabels run in safe zones below 50mm depth and from a drop above to an outlet need to be RCD protected AND need to be protected by earthed conduit, trunking or sheath.

    Earthing metal capping?

Example... Light switch cable drop from a ceiling down a wall to a recessed metal back box ive protected the cable with a length of metal capping, new regs state even in a `safe zone` metal capping will need to be earthed. QUESTION... 1.How do you earth metal capping? Is it simply relied...

    Cooker fault / mains tripping

Call out an Electrician to check the supply to the cooker. He/she will carry out a series of tests I.E insulation resistance/continuity on the cables. Is the main isolator in your consumer unit an RCD? Or is the the circuit supplying the cooker on the RCD side of a split load consumer unit?

    NEW Consumer Unit

No harm in asking questions though is it? Please keep in mind it`s the ladies and gents that come on here asking question that keep this site going.

    T.T earthing *bonding*

Cheers again Guys... Secure... As its a MUST to install a 100mA RCD to protect the whole installation is the method for protection then not taken as EEBADS anymore? Or is it still EEBADS due to the RCD still causing the automatic disconection of supply?

    3 phase MCB`s...

How do the current ratings work on 3 phase MCB`s? If a had a C32 3 phase Mcb protecting a circuit will it protect each phase at 32amps or is it 32 amps for the whole circuit in question?

    Zs on a lighting circuit?

Hi Secure... I also have an Alphatek (instaltest 61557) Can i ask,if you carry out a Zs reading at a light circuit, do you use it as a 2 or 3 lead tester?

    Zs on a lighting circuit?

Hi Taylor... So when carrying out a direct measurement of Zs at a rose a 3 lead tester is a must? Would i not get a reading using a 2 lead tester between phase and cpc?

    Zs on a lighting circuit?

Hi Spark Im not testing as yet, just reading and wondering at the moment. Im reading various publications and they say as i was told,to test at the rose/fitting itself but im wondering....say the last rose is 20 meters away from the C.U and the switch drop from said rose is a further 2 meters...

    Zs on a lighting circuit?

When carrying out a direct measurement of the EFLI on a lighting circuit,i was told the measurement should be taken at the furthest point from the C.U on the circuit to find the worst case reading. Now...would you say the furthest point was.... A...The rose/light fitting? OR B...The switch?

    T.T earthing *bonding*

Hi guys...im a new one to these parts and im hoping to pick your brains... First off ... Question... It is made clear we should not use copper service pipes (water/gas) as a main connection to earth but when i came across an old installation the water pipe was used as the main bond to earth...
