    Load-bearing window trim!

You'd think that would be a better system. FENSA seem very guarded about the details. I'm planning to leave feedback. FENSA have given me the name of the insurance company IPWFI that are underwriting the 10 year guarantee. Interestingly, they said the main windows company office is taking...

    Load-bearing window trim!

No, tilting horizontally outwards towards the outside. There is metal at the top of each window... Worryingly the local showroom has gone, altough their main office in essex is still open I believe. It is insurance backed so in theory that should cover the costs and someone should have...

    Load-bearing window trim!

I've removed the siliconed-in strips of pvc window trim around the inside of my windows and it seems as it they were holding the frame steady. Its a triple window and you can move the top middle of the frame outwards about an inch  There are 2 masonary screws at each end holding...

They're saying we'll have to wear a jumper indoors.

This one’s obviously not a real poll ;) I just found it quite amusing the way they were totally outraged this morning on the news by the suggestion of wearing a couple of layers. It almost starts to make you feel sorry for the government with the kind of people it has to deal with. I...

They're saying we'll have to wear a jumper indoors.

Due to the higher gas prices; they're saying we'll have to wear a jumper indoors in the winter. Is the world coming to an end?[/b]

    Restricting Young Drivers

Make them get the bus :x Seriously though, pricing young people out of having a car so they use public transport would be a good way forward. They can always learn driving as a skill in their parent's car.

Still need to size after Dulux Plaster Sealer?

I've made good the problem plasterboard walls and applied Dulux Plaster Sealer to try and solve the problems where it was a bit flakey. Do I still need to size prior to hanging lining paper, or will the Plaster Sealer seal it sufficiently?

    The TPS doesn't work.

We've found the TPS to work. We're also not listed in the phone book though. We also use the fax one at work, we used to get faxes advertising T-Shirts etc and they stopped as soon as I forwarded them to the FPS under their complaints system.

    I'm getting 3.5% - what about you?

0% rise :( I work in an office environment and I've never had a yearly pay rise as big as 3.5%. I think tradesmen prices/wages have risen faster than a lot of others. There are more and more vans in the more expensive areas where I live whereas they wouldn't have been able to afford it in...

    Litter

I think people should keep the area in front of their own house clean. In my street thats in a fairly nice area people pick up litter thats blown in on the breeze. That keeps it a nice place to live. In sh*tty areas they just leave it until the place becomes a mess.

    Fence ideas

Do you actually want bamboo, or is it just because of the part panel? It's not difficult to create a shorter panel from a bog-standard 6 foot lap panel one.

    sprayable "paint" for fences

Ban the things :x I notice they have virtually no plants in those gardens that'd be in the way or would get covered in paint and die. I'm still upset about a house 50m away covering my new white windows in brown paint literally days after they were installed. It took me about 6 hours to clean...

    Lining paper and dulux once

Thanks, your advice made me realise it's time to start again. I've started scraping off the paint. It's coming off back to the plasterboard OK, even with my Focus Basics chisel knife :!: There will be a few nicks into the paper layer of the plasterboard, but apart from that at least I'll...

    Lining paper and dulux once

The house was built in about 1990 and is all plasterboard. The network of cracks was in the original paint, so shouldn't be my PVA. My theory is either the original builders were in a rush to finish and didn't do things properly or the previous owners used some very dodgy paint... I'm half...

    Lining paper and dulux once

Maybe I'll just keep that paint for future touching up in the other rooms... All the walls are entirely covered in cracks, so I think I'm going to have to take a brute force approach. This image is a 20-30cm sample:

    Lining paper and dulux once

Can you just slap lining paper on, or is it worth taking the time to prepare the surface? I'm inclined to sand right down to the plasterboard this time and apply a primer, Also, I already have some dulux once which I've used with no problems in other rooms. I know people on here don't like it...

    Jobs for the boys

I live in Peterborough which has massive immigration. There is a minority of Poles doing import jobs (such as my dentist, nurses etc), but the majority of jobs should be being done by locals or people relocating from other areas of the uk. Forcing the chavs to work as well of course... One...

    Postcrete question

I wonder whether the original problem is the water draining away too quickly? You shouldn't need to mix it. My soil is mostly clay so the water stayed there in time for most of the holes. However, one just seemed to drain instantly so we put a flat plastic bag in the bottom. This kept the...
