I’m building a flat roof which spans 4x4.5m I have been told to use two 8x3 joists to trim out for a roof lantern going in the middle. What size bolts should be used to bolt these timbers together? Also what spacing? Thanks!

yeah you're correct its been cut, i did wonder about those rafters above the stairs, presumably they were doubled up to give them enough strength? Its a loft conversion that was done about 12 years ago by the previous owner.

The room will only be used as an office and not for a bedroom. I doubt it meets any regs as it is, there’s not enough head room on the stairs leading up there etc etc. How would I go about supporting the purlin differently? Thanks

So that 15mm pipe runs down and under the floor boards, it doesn’t seem to appear outside the house so not sure where it would go to? I see what you mean about the rust on the boiler but t was serviced about 6 months ago
