How to sort out a raised joist..??

Hi, will planing the top off the joist require some building regs approval?? It's a concrete oversite - that ok? Yes there some wall vents under the floorboard level - why are they necessary out of curiosity?

How to sort out a raised joist..??

Hi all, another "challenge" has come about - i'm nearing completion of our bathroom and will soon be laying the flooring. But, whilst fitting the shower tray (wetroom type) i noticed that one of the joists - sods law one under the shower tray - is slightly higher than the others. I thought...

Maximum weight of fixings on Thermalite block wall

Hi all, I want to build a suspended basin cabinet to go in the bathroom. It will support 2 x table-top basins, a glass table top, and contain pebbles (which will be visible through the glass). I've got a couple of heavy duty brackets, which are rated to 200kg each, but am concerned that the...

1/2" thread or extension for shower head & handset?

Hi folks, i'm having the same issue as this fella... http://www.diynot.com/forums/plumbing/short-integrated-shower-outlet-fouling-aquapanel.399989/ ..except that i don't think that tap backplate & hose will do the trick, as I need to come out about 40mm from the stud work to allow for the...

How to do walls & floors with Travertine tiles..

Backer boards it is then. I guess if I can use the 6mm boards rather than 12mm then that'll be ok to fix over the render to save stripping it all back to blocks. One last question - what overall thickness should I allow for fixings in the room if I have 6mm boards and 12mm tiles? I.e. how...

How to do walls & floors with Travertine tiles..

Thanks Adam. What's the best way to remove the plaster skim, and leave a sound flat substrate? I've just tried removing some and it's a right ballache! The cement render comes away from the blocks easier than the plaster skim does! The render looks like cement render to me - see the photo...

How to do walls & floors with Travertine tiles..

Ok thanks. I might chisel back some walls, but leave others as they are. So tiling over the existing render is definitely a no-go?

How to do walls & floors with Travertine tiles..

Thanks Cancerbeat, so they can't be attached to the wall directly then? Would I have to remove the render before attaching the Hardiebacker? Just thinking that if I use Hardiebacker, and then tile, it'll bring the wall out over 25mm!

How to do walls & floors with Travertine tiles..

Hi all, I've ordered some travertine tiles 610 x 406 x 12mm, to tile our bathroom floor & walls. Before I start, I understand this type of tile requires a little more skill and experience than the usual tile, so wanted to know what was involved before I make a mess of it. Can anyone...

Best way to hide pipes to towel rail radiator..

Bugger, it will, but the pipes can be moved easily as they're plastic under the floorboards. Will just have to drill new holes in the floorboards when we come to tile. Thanks for the heads up!
