    Handbrake Cables

Hi, No, the adjuster is fitted just between the bottom of the two shoes and clamped in position by the bottom spring. Will let you know how things go on, though going to give it a rest until the weekend, chance for my bp and frustration levels to go down ! Thanks again.

    Handbrake Cables

Thanks, like the idea of tapping thew drum to help centralise the shoes , will give it a try. Never used any lubrication on backplate etc, but will put some on them. Have been under the car and checked the equaliser and the cables ends etc and they are looking/feel clean, free and floating...

    Handbrake Cables

Thanks, these are handbrake only drums as part of the rear disc/drum and the shoes are manually adjusted by means of a star wheel on each side. The shoes and disc/drums are new and its something I have done many times over the years but this one just will not grip on the nearside properly...

    Handbrake Cables

Hi, My Toyota Corolla has handbrake cables as in the diagram below. It has separate cables going to each rear drum, which as I understand, the equaliser should apply equal force to each. ( that said its a little easier to understand the equaliser on set ups that have a looped cable going to...

    Jointing Compound .. choice ?

Hi, For the novice user doing a one off smallish dry lining job, what is the best choice for joint fillers ? There are the powders and ready mixed tubs ? Even Gyproc do two versions, Joint Filler and Easy Fill. Any advice please...

Room hot since gas fire removed ...

Its this kind of vent, but with the even earlier narrower type of ridge tile vent ( Marley) and has not been capped, does this type need to be as there is no direct downward route like a typical pot?

Room hot since gas fire removed ...

Hi, Our north facing lounge has always been the coolest room in the house and perfect for these hot days. However earlier in the week we had the old wall mounted gas fire taken out and an new electric one fitted. One reason for replacement is that the concrete flue built in the wall is now...

Horizontal plasterboard joints when using Resilient Bars

Hi, Most descriptions I have seen of using resilient bars on walls show a full sheet being applied, but what happens when you have make a horizontal joint in the plasterboard and how is it best dealt with ? thanks

Soundproofing A Brick Party Wall-Best Method?

Cannot find any other recent post regarding the M20 acoustic panels, so excuse resurrecting this old thread. Smuudge sounds happy with his installation, wonder if he is still of the same opinion and also if his "acoustiboard plasterboard" is todays typical acoustic plasterboard like Gyproc...

Sound Insulation - Saarpor Latex Sound Proof Wall Liner

Hi, Well that introduces another area for folk like us who know little about this subject ! Seems SoundStop offer their Genie Clips that can fasten directly to the blockwork, but looking around seems many such installations also use timer battens plus a thin rubber type of layer...

Sound Insulation - Saarpor Latex Sound Proof Wall Liner

Had not really looked a RB as the M20 panels seem to make the whole process every easy. Many RB examples show as being fitted to wooden battens, but have now seen some where the RB are fitted to the wall blocks, but seems they also need some filling and some even use rubber membranes; not sure...

Sound Insulation - Saarpor Latex Sound Proof Wall Liner

Hi, The dots and existing plasterboard only take up about 25mm from the holes we have tested. Seems those RB and plasterboards need about 100mm, which we do not want to loose in our narrow lounge, whereas the M20 panels etc will take about 45mm. Thought the use of the M20 panels was the...

Sound Insulation - Saarpor Latex Sound Proof Wall Liner

Hi, After a bit more looking around seems using the M20 sound blocking panels with acoustic plasterboard is the only way for us due to its minimal thickness, anything like an extra stud wall is way too thick for our narrow room. Also seems removal of the existing dot and dab plasterboard is...

Sound Insulation - Saarpor Latex Sound Proof Wall Liner

Hi, Thanks all, thats why I was asking as no idea if it was any good or not. As mentioned by @endecotp have also just been looking at that soundstop and similar products which do look a bit more like the real thing but the down side seems to be as we have dot and dab plaster board over the...

Sound Insulation - Saarpor Latex Sound Proof Wall Liner

Hi, We are about to redecorate the lounge and have a little trouble with tv noise coming though the party wall which is breeze , air gap , breeze and the other side is about 2ft lower than us. Have seen the above new (?) product and would be interested to know if anyone has used it and if its...

Replacing washer , holding a monoblock body still ?

As the valve is on the low pressure hot water feed from the tank, would it be better to use a Lever Ball Valve or Full Bore Isolating Valve as they are they less prone to failure ? Think as stop tap is not suitable as do not allow maximum flow.. ?

Replacing washer , holding a monoblock body still ?

Hi All, Manage to shape some 2ft lengths of wood to fit up against the tiles and the curves of the block body and that did the job. :) It only move the block body a few degrees so happy its flexible pipes could handle that ok. Went to turn the low pressure hot water tank gate valve back on ...
