Gas Fire Flues - which Trader is Correct ?

Hi, No, its just the bare concrete of the block; a rectangular hole, from what I remember when I last looked up it during a check up. Do not think its wide enough for a metal liner partic towards the roof ridge where the last flue blocks are offset diagonally to meet the ridge.

Gas Fire Flues - which Trader is Correct ?

Hi, Would appreciate some independant advice regarding having a replacement gas fire fitted. The old gas fire c. 1980 has a worn out valve which is now obselete, but otherwise burns well. Its a wall hung fire and the flue is a breeze block sized , concrete block with flue hole in its centre...

    Hallway ceiling papering

Hi, Sorry, bad choice of words, it is a L shaped hallway, the entrance being west facing and round the corner is actually south facing, but not as much direct light as the west facing entance where the ceiling is more apparent. The south facing part also has the loft hatch ( bungalow) , second...

    Hallway ceiling papering

Hi, We have a right angled hallway about 3m x 3m x 1m wide and its main entrance is west facing. This means one angle will need to be papered across and the other angle lengthwise, if you see what I mean. The question is, in the west facing entrance, which is the best way to paper to...

Honeywell Accentra - How to Turn Off

Ok, thanks, seems there is no way as such then, thought I better just ask in case I had missed some point as the manual is a bit obtuse to the diy-er. All the +12 and 0v connections are commoned in to bundles and the tamper circuits are in a daisy chained bundle so totally isolating one sensor...

Honeywell Accentra - How to Turn Off

Hi, Have a newish Accenta alarm system, self installed, with a Honeywell AG6 bell box. It all works well, but yesterday needed to remove a PIR for decorating, but found that if I powered the control unit off and disconnected the battery then the Bell box alarm sounds. While I could disconnect...

Plasterboarding over Artex ceiling - Edges ?

Hi, Am looking to plasterboard over an existng but very sound artexed plasterboard ceiling; a 900mm wide right angled hall way, and have found most of the answers to the usual diyers questions from other posts. Thankfully the existing battens are ideally spaced for both angles. The walls are...

Halfords Spray Paint - drying times ?

Hi, Have purchased some of the Halfords metallic spray can paints to redo some badly scratch trims. The instructions are clear enough but both the primer and colour coat say that after applying their coats, they should be left for 24 hours before rubbing down. Looking at things like ytube...

uPVC window in wooden frame ?

Hi, Have got a timber porch and the main front window frame 4 x 3ft is well gone. Its surround is the main support for the tiled roof, being a 3x3" uprights and a 6x3" head, all resting on a brick wall. If I renewed the window with a upvc one, what spacing should I allow for expansion and is...

    Resurfacing Driveway

You can only get an informed opinion if we know whats beneath the tarmac. Suggest you do a couple of small test holes at least 150mm deep to see whats actually under there, one in the middle and one at the edge to establish exactly whats under the full width. You can find a lot of info at this...

    Portable Air con units

Thanks for the clip. Perhaps my choice of words for the " cold air outlet" - I meant the front cold air outlet , normally to the room, was 'capped' with the 6" hose and fed though the stud wall into the other room. Seems there are no true dual hose outlets portable units on sale in the uk...

    Portable Air con units

Hi, No first hand experience of these small , <12000 btu , portable air con units and from what I have read they are, as single outlet units, not very effective. Seems if they are fitted with dual outlets, eg hot air out, air in, then they can be more effective.. ? However yet to find any...

Hi, Just got some 'Alarm Flex ' from ToolStation to finish my installation and thought I was ordering 6c Stranded , as the pic shows in their catalogue/online, but turns out its solid core, though properly labelled as Alarm cable Type 2. http://www.toolstation.com/shop/p68550?table=no Seems...

    Honeywell Pir IS312 Look-Down ?

The device /instructions say its by default jumpered to Pet Immunity On and the Look Down shield up / Disabled, so why have they fitted both ? Is Look Down just a mechanical method of pet immunity ?

    Honeywell Pir IS312 Look-Down ?

Hi, Have some of the above Pirs with the Accentra installation kit, but just cannot work out exactly what the purpose of the Look-Down feature is ? Searched the web /Honeywell brochures etc but nothing clear ...? The unit has a separate jumper to allow Pet Immunity so not sure what the purpose...

    Comfort LEDs on Bell box

Ah, should have said the vib sensors are the Texecom ones as they are the only ones the local dealer stocks. Perhaps the HW Viper does not have a comfort led ? Will have to ask the dealer why they do not stock the vipers, as they seem to do most other HW parts

    uPVC windows - alarm security

We really need to leave the 3ft wide top opener of a wooden widow in the porch ajar an inch or so during the summer otherwise it gets way too hot. Have seen these two types of restrictors, wondered how good either were ? would fit one at each end of the opener.

    Comfort LEDs on Bell box

Just putting up my honeywell bell box with comfort leds and will be leaving them on. Should indicate its a real system and if they could be /were only turned on when the system was activated it would be a give away for any intruder. Fitting window vibration sensors and they also have comfort...
