Discharge pipes: Unvented water system (& central heatin

At the risk of asking a stupid question.... Soil stack.... there is a large vertical pipe in the corner of the room which the pipes from the washing machine, sink and toilet & bath run into. Which sounds like a soil stack from my brief education on t'interweb. Is that what it is? Or is it...

Discharge pipes: Unvented water system (& central heatin

No chance i am doing this myself. I just want to know whats possible. My plumber wasnt very expansive when i questioned if there were any alternatives from just drilling a hole in the wall. There is also a toilet waste pipe which goes through the room. How much work/cost would there be...

Discharge pipes: Unvented water system (& central heatin

So I have seen the NHBC newsletter which states use of Hepvo Waterless valve, and not good idea to build into washing machine/sink waste pipe.... So my thought process is: the waste from the sink (& washing machine) is flowing somewhere. What is required to modify the pipework to incorporate...

Existing Cellar. Replacing roof. Stopping condensation

Hello, We have an existing cellar, part of which extends 7ft past the foot print of the house. The external part suffers from condensation on the concrete roof. The internal part does not. As the steel beams in the ceiling of the external section are heavily corroded and the roof is not...

Gravity fed vs mains pressure systems

Hmmm. House is old (1900). Showers work fairly well no real grumbles. Just considering changing to main pressure to free up the room in the loft. Though its not essential - from the perspective of space - to do so. Sounds to me that if components are still readliy available for gravity...

Light rust on steel fireplace fender

Thanks guys. I had a look at it last night quickly and the shiny steel has become much darker around its footprint, which at a guess may be due to previous restoration/rust treatment. I like the idea of the fine wool as I guess that might take it back to its former shiny glory also?

Light rust on steel fireplace fender

Hello, Got the start of some rust, a few light spots and red-ish areas starting, following cleaning the carpet, on a steel fireplace fender. Is a rust remover product a bit excessive, would some fine wire wool do the job? Cheers
