Hi everyone, a strange request for you

I hope this is your own property and not a rented one.

Vaillant ecoTEC leaking loads of water!

Banman, I know nothing about boilers, but just in case - when you let in more water because of the pressure drop, did you check the pressure in the dial on the right hand side after you'd done so? I mention this only because you might have created too much pressure, as indicated by the dial...

Do you need an E cloth for a new kitchen?

I'd guess this is really the same problem as I had. The company relies on its software to get things right and when it doesn't - or it adds things the customer doesn't want - no one (except the customer) appears to check it or question it. If they could get that sorted, they'd have a better...

Good luck with your studies. It's a great career.

    New Boiler Required

Well, I have a Vaillant Ecotec and it's fabulous. Really quiet - not like the Ideal I have in another property. That sounds like someone's trying to slurp icecream through a straw. Worcester Bosch have a good reputation, too.

Do you need an E cloth for a new kitchen?

You're a credit to your employer, Miss G - and it's refreshing that you don't feel you have to slag off the customers to get your point across. I must admit that I do buy quite a lot from B&Q and I've always found the staff polite and the choice of products good, but the company would have to...

    No trickle vents

Rogmor, I think it was in April 2006 that the regs changed. This is what Building Control told me at the time I complained about my mother's windows: Replacement windows are required to comply with approved document L1B: Conservation of Fuel & Power. In addition replacement windows are...

beech work tops varnish or linseed oil help please !!!

If you're anywhere near an IKEA, you might like to try their special oil for worktops. It's cheap but does the job. I bought a bottle last year for some beech kitchen worktops and it seems to work just fine.

    Varnishing pine

That's true but pine turns orange almost instantly with varnish, whether it's oil or acrylic.

    Bambo flooring (bathroom)

I have no experience of bamboo flooring but I don't think it's generally recommended for bathrooms. However, before you opt for cork, have a look at this: http://www.realoakfloors.co.uk/waterproof_laminate_flooring_aquafloor.php

    No trickle vents

Trickle vents are designed to provide ventilation. If you don't have that ventilation, where are you going to get your fresh air? Where is the water-vapour produced by breathing to go? Double-glazing doesn't magically get rid of this water-vapour. It's still there and it has to go...

    Varnishing pine

Liberon natural finish claims to reduce the 'orange' effect: http://www.choiceful.com/choiceful-id-7621-Liberon-Clear-Satin-Natural-Finish-Varnish-250ml.html I've never used it myself but I have used antique pine wax on new pine skirting boards which seemed to work quite well and blend...

    leaky roof

I'd have been inclined to get in touch with the builder who constructed the property. (That's what I did when I had problems, and yes, I do accept that the NHBC itself is not the most helpful organisation.) However, buildings still under the original cover should have been constructed properly...

Toolshare scheme added to the freeconomy community

Nothwithstanding some of the negative comments - which are probably valid - I still think it's a great idea. And that's not just because it gives people access to tools they might not otherwise be able to afford, but it promotes the idea of sharing and in today's society that has to be a good...

    Boiler Relocation

I've just had this done and altogether, inc VAT it, came to over £2000. The labour charge was £700. The boiler was a Vaillant and I had new radiator valves, powerflush etc. It's a lovely job, though.

    Hearth tiles

In my last house, I had a cast iron multi-fuel stove. The fireplace itself was brick, and the hearth was black slate. To cover the concrete underneath the fire, I just used matt black tiles - the kind you see on Victorian hallways. They lasted fine for 12 years, which was when I sold the house.
