    On top or not

Thanks for the replies. Perhaps I should have been more specific. I have no problem with the actual laying of the laminate. In this case the old boards are in bad shape and VERY uneven so I intend to pull them up and lay a chipboard floor to start with. My question really was - (A)...

    On top or not

Just about to lay laminate flooring in a kitchen the main area of which is 11ft x11ft. There will be cupboard units along two sides of this and a single unit (u/sink) plus cooker and fridge on another. What are your opinions as to whether the laminate should be laid as a complete floor with...

    Blades for cutting Laminate flooring

I recently saw a reference to 'down cutting' jigsaw blades ( blades with the teeth pointing down ) and thought that this would be a useful tool for cutting laminate floor boards. Has anyone used these for this purpose and if so are they readily available and from where. Any tips for...

Oilman - Can you help ?

Corgiman, Thanks for the reply. The part that is leaking is around the flange(boss ?) that the manufacturer fits to the cylinder, not the pipe fittings which thread into the flange. I have not refilled the heating circuit yet, only the domestic hot water part as I am checking all of the...

Oilman - Can you help ?

Need your advice. I had to disconnect the pipework to the hot water cylinder coil in order to move the cylinder to sort out a weeping joint. On re-assembly, there is a slight leak at the cylinder flange (top coil fitting). I used grips to hold the fitting on the cyl. when undoing and...

Paul, So, OK, I'll send you details of where to transfer the £1,000,000. The method worked - the pinhole is your problem :-)

    Another laminate flooring question

Thanks for the replies. I've read a couple of manufacturers sites info. and the waterproof glue seems to be a good idea - at least around the sink area.

    Soldered joints

I have no idea how it behaves with lead free. Might be best to overheat what you have a little in order to try run the LF out of the joint, clean it up and then try a re-heat with the multi-core. I really don't know as I have never used LF solder.

    Soldered joints

If you are into electronics, why not hit it with some multi-core. I've used this in the past on an awkward joint. Don't overheat the joint, as soon as you see the solder start to flow move the torch off to one side.

Hot and cold - which side

I've lived with it this way for 20+ years without any problems, but I had noticed that most installations were the other way round and wondered if there was a 'right ' way. Thanks again for your replies.

Hot and cold - which side

Thanks for the replies. I thought that there would be a standard. For some reason whoever plumbed our (rural) property did it the other way round !

Hot and cold - which side

Not a 'how to' question but one which intrigues me. Is there any convention which dictates whether the hot taps (sink & bath etc.) should be fitted on the left or right hand side. What is the norm. in the UK ?

    Another laminate flooring question

I am about to lay laminate in a kitchen and although the flooring is supposed to be OK for this application, I wonder how it will stand up to the occasional liquid spill(s). It is click fix assembly - not glue. Should I coat the edges with something to waterproof them, if so what is recommended ?
