    Hikvision for IP CCTV system?

This company seem to be offering the best value in regards to an IP system and appear to be on most websites. I can get 2 x 2MP VF cameras, with an NVR (inbuilt POE) and 2TB harddrive for around £400 - 450 I know this company is not UK based but lets face it, a lot of the products we buy these...

Adding extra PIRs to Optima Compact G4

New to wiring alarms but quite experienced with DIY in general. I need to add 2 new PIRs to my system which will be covering 2 downstairs rooms as part of an extension and just wanted to check a few things 1) Does the tamper need to be in a series circuit? 2) I have 4 free zones so is there...

Which plastic pipe is best for central heating?

I know this was a year ago but I'm in a similar situation and really struggling to find answers. My general understanding is that PB is more flexible but PEX is stronger. What did you go with? Ive got to run 4 pipes - hot and cold taps, and flow for heating.

    Triton Electric Shower Buzz

May sound obvious, but have you ran the shower without the cover on to try and locate the source of the buzz - only if it safe to do so. I assume its more of an electrical buzz rather than a vibrational buzz from something like a part coming loose. I know you say remains even on cold, but have...

Difference in plastic piping for water feed and heating

Thanks. It appears the polybutylene is meant to be more flexible, but then Google throws up a load of things about the dangers of polybutylene pipe

Difference in plastic piping for water feed and heating

I'm just looking at some plastic pipe for hot and cold water feed, also a heating system extension, but not entirely sure what the differences are. Ive just copied these titles from the site. Clearly there is the difference in brand but for a 25m length there is over £10 difference between the...

    Not sure what shower cartridge

Brought a mixer shower few years ago and think the cartridge is going as the temperature goes from hot to cold in the smallest of turn. Can't remember what brand it was and don't think I have any paper work. I'm guessing the only way for me to find out is to remove the old cartridge and take a...

    LED Light switch timer

Thanks Freddo. Given today's technology I wouldn't of thought a timer that worked with LEDs was too much to ask for.

    LED Light switch timer

We have a few lights all with LED bulbs on the front of our house but always forget to turn then off when we go to bed so I thought I get a light switch timer but all of them say not suitable for LEDs. I don't understand why they wouldn't work. Does anyone know why? There is only one I've found...

Concealed cistern unit has no access panel

Thanks for the compliments :) Looking at their pictures it doesn't have a top so I don't think cutting it would be the correct route. I have the version where the basin sits on top and yet again a crap design, nothing holds it apart from gravity. Unfortunately apart from silicone or glue I...

    Footing depth below pipe

the trench running on top of the pipe has been dug out so he can replace the pipe, but there is a trench to the left which runs parallel with it

    Stud Partition: acceptable foundation depth.

As Woody said. We are just going through planning permission for a single extension with 3-4 partition walls and was advised to do them as studded walls otherwise everyone would need full depth footings.

    Footing depth below pipe

I have been helping my friend dig his footings for a single story extension at the rear, as wide as the house and 3m deep. He is replacing waste water pipe that runs through that area but was suggesting that all 3 sides of the footings need to be 600mm below the bottom of the pipe. which due to...

Gas BBQ - what is patio gas?

Thanks. Thats exactly what I thought - just a marketing ploy. Only downside is I think the regulator that came with the BBQ is 27mm which seems to be the size for patio gas, so may have to buy a new regulator.
