    Cable routing

My walls are brick with plaster. With Option 2, I was trying to avoid using the side entry holes to the back boxes. My plan was to use the top holes in the boxes , bend the cable through 90 degrees then onto the next box. Should I look at using the side holes? pcboffinuk: In addition to...

Shed power cable in waste pipe?

My CU is a Square D Domae unit. It was installed about 12 months ago. It is split load and has a spare 'way' on each side. It looks similar to this one although the layout of the breakers is different. Image 'borrowed from an ebay auction', was the closest I could find.... I will try and...

Shed power cable in waste pipe?

I have been given 25m of 4x10mm SWA cable. If I run this in the existing pipe will it be OK? I assume that I would been a small CU in the shed. I am concerned that connecting the SWA cable to the main CU in the house would be tricky, any suggestions how to do it?

I guessed this would be the case Do you mean connect the shed feed to an MCD on the RCD side of the CU? It would be appreciated if you could find this out. Google has not helped me find the info yet!! I knew that was the case.

Shed power cable in waste pipe?

Since moving in to my house, I had wondered how they got power to the shed which is sited 20m from the house. This weekend I found that there is a 40mm waste pipe buried just below the concrete slab path. In the pipe there is a bit of 2.5mm2 T+E and a couple of nylon pull strings. The entire...

    Is my CU earth OK?

No, there is a metal lug with a screw in it. The wire is wrapped around the screw which has been tightened. Not sure where the other end of the lug is as its covered in a black tar like tape. Sorry its not clear on the photo. The CU is in a dark cupboard and the flash has made it look strange

    Is my CU earth OK?

I hope you could have a quick look at the photo of my main earth and let me know if it seems OK. The earth cable attached to the screw terminal in the photo connects the the earth bus bar in my new (spark installed) CU. The pipe on the RHS of the photo is the gas pipe feeding the boiler...

    using 1 core of T+E

I need to provide an additional core to my central heating controller (for a separate hot water signal). I have some 1.5mm2 T+E, but obviously only need to use of of the two cores. What should I do with the second core? Should I cut it off and wrap insulation tape around the end, or use it in...

Condensation / mould on bedroom ceiling

JohnD: Many thanks for the advice. I'll get some expanded polystyrene and try it. Will have to see if it makes a difference. To clean the mould up, I have been using a cloth with cheapo bleach. It makes the mould go for a while but it comes back. Once I have put the insulation in, what should...

Condensation / mould on bedroom ceiling

If I do insulate: The gap is not very easy to access. Dont think I could really fit normal glassfibre insulation. Would need something rigid to poke in the hole, any suggestions? How much space must I leave between the top of the insulation and the rafters or roof tiles? I am very happy with...

Condensation / mould on bedroom ceiling

Hi, I have a problem in both our bedroom and my sons room. Condensation is forming on the ceiling and black mould is growing. Hopefully this picture will help. Should I try to insulate the bit highlighted in the picture? What else can I try? The house is double glazed, but there are no...

    bleeding daily

In my case I can confirm that no water has left the tank via the overflow / warning pipe. The currently level when the system is hot is a long way below the outlet as can be seen in the photo. Is there a suggested way to collect the 'air' that is bled from a radiator to see if it is hydrogen...

    bleeding daily

I spoke to soon.... All was OK when the heating was on for an hour this morning: No air heard and none could be bled from the radiator. This evening the good old bubbles came back and air came out of the bleed valve when I opened it. I always wait about an hour after the heating has...

    bleeding daily

I drained some water off the system yesterday - it came out lovely and clean... Decided to tightened the TRV on the radiator that was collecting air. The compression joint to the pipe recieved about 1/4 turn. Since then I have heard no more air entering the radiator. Fingers crossed that...

    bleeding daily

Forgot to mention: The water level in the tank looks pretty constant. I guess that from the line on the side of the tank and the fact the ball valve opened when I removed a few cup fulls of water.
