Clipping a plastic gutter joint to the downpipe.

Yesterday was a terrific day - lots of rain. And the gutter still wasn't right although water was merely dripping out as opposed to gushing. On closer examination of the downpipe (which had water rolling down the outside of it) it turns out I had two issues - not only the blown seal but the...

Clipping a plastic gutter joint to the downpipe.

I've found the problem! I took a close look at the rubber seal and it was obvious (from looking down the barrel of it, if you see what I mean) that it had 'given'. The result was that it wasn't sitting as flush in the groove as it should be. The other end wasn't too bad so I cut a couple of...

Clipping a plastic gutter joint to the downpipe.

There isn't any more as I gave it a right good clean... The fairy liquid was a good idea but, unfortunately, job not yet done. Whichever clip I force in, the opposite one pops out. But I don't think it could ever work – the open end of the short bit of gutter is clearly too big to fit. Perhaps...

Clipping a plastic gutter joint to the downpipe.

Cheers folks, I'll see how I get on with that advice. Luckily, footprints, I only need to stand a few feet off the ground...

Clipping a plastic gutter joint to the downpipe.

Hi. Rainwater was leaking from the gutter so I removed the joint, cleaned it out, checked the seal then went to reassemble it. Is there a knack to clipping it back together? I just cannot get the last clip in. This pic I found online is exactly the gutter style I have. I should say that I...

How to replace a Hushflow washer on a dual-flush toilet

Hello Rob and thank you very much for that. Am I pushing in the right place (red line on attached pic)? It doesn't seem right given that the collet is already hard up to the valve (green line)...

How to replace a Hushflow washer on a dual-flush toilet

I've established that it's the ballvalve attached to the inlet hose that needs a new washer. Can anyone tell if my one is push-on or screw-on (I suspect push)? And is there a knack to disconnecting it from the hose? I can't do it but then I'm wary of using too much force...

How to replace a Hushflow washer on a dual-flush toilet

Here's a pic of the top view. Can someone tell me where the washer actually goes as I'm having trouble figuring it out. Also, how does the plastic fitting come apart - twist, pull etc? My thanks to anyone able to assist.

How to replace a Hushflow washer on a dual-flush toilet

Hi. Two years ago, I had water dripping into the toilet pan which the plumber fixed by replacing the washer (a 1.25” Hushflow washer). It's happened again and I want to fix it myself given that the plumber did it quickly and without tools. I've got the new washer but just can't figure out where...

Light switch won't return to Off position - feels 'spongy'

Thanks for that. The switch is inside the garage and no-one but me was around so nothing could have hit it. Another one for the 'unexplained' file, possibly...

Light switch won't return to Off position - feels 'spongy'

Hi. I went into the garage yesterday, put the light on, did my chore, went to switch the light off - couldn't do it. The rocker only rocked back half way and had a weird 'spongy' feel to it. Can anyone suggest what's happened here? My thanks if you can.

Sealant turning black from the inside

Hi. I've read a few threads about mouldy sealant but none mentions my particular issue - turning black from the inside out. It's a fairly new build I'm in and the original sealant looked like this: I replaced it last summer and this is it today: You'll note the greyish bits as well...

    Shower sealant - black gunge

Hello. Due to it looking dirty at the edges, I've decided to replace the sealant around my shower tray. I was surprised to find such an amount of black grit/gunge/mess BEHIND the sealant (see pic). Is this entirely normal for a shower or had the original sealant not been applied properly...

    Loose door handle

Ah, right. All I could see in Homebase were complete sets - handles, bit you screw to the door, connecting bar. Starting from about £7. Is that what you meant? I know £7 isn't a lot, I just like being able to say "I fixed that!". Regards

Hmm... Seems springs are hard to find. The consumer once again forced to buy a whole new part.

Thanks for that. I'm calling the plate attached to the door an escutcheon. Obviousy wrong...!

    Loose door handle

Hi. All of a sudden the doorhandle in the pic below has become loose. Best way to describe it is that it feels like a spring inside has gone. The mechanism still works though. The escutcheon is rigid, just the handles that feel loose and the far off one is sitting lower down than it should...
