Hello. Due to it looking dirty at the edges, I've decided to replace the sealant around my shower tray. I was surprised to find such an amount of black grit/gunge/mess BEHIND the sealant (see pic). Is this entirely normal for a shower or had the original sealant not been applied properly?

Kind regards.

Its generally due to incorrect application or an inferior brand of sealant......go for Mapei or Cow Dorning stuff, and hang the expense!
Taking time to dry off the sealant after every shower pays many dividends too.
