    New soil stack

Looking at the easy solution, would it be a big no-no in plumbing terms to run the soil pipe 5m to the stack, even though it's within the allowed limits. :?:

    New soil stack

I am fitting a toilet 5m away from the existing soil stack, on the same wall. Although this is within the 6m allowed, would it be normal practice to fit a new stack instead? To do this I will have to tee into the existing clay pipe drain which is 4 ft down. How complicated is it to tee into...

    Cutting Lath and Plaster ceiling

Any tips on how to cut into lath and plaster ceiling? I want to fit a loft hatch and down lighters but don't want to crack up the ceiling in the process of cutting into it. I had thought of setting in a square of plasterboard for the down lighters but I still have to cut the laths. :?

    Fitting flue in slate roof

I am fitting a boiler and the flue will go up through the roof, using a roof kit. It is a recently re-done slate roof with the flue going out 3 or 4 rows below the ridge. How do I remove tiles to cut them and fit around the roof flue kit? :?

    Wiring when dry linig

We are going to dry line with insulation on the back of plaster board, all dabbed on to the wall (done by plasterer). What is the procedure for wiring. Is it a) conduit down wall, recess in brick work to take depth of dry lining box, say 1 cm bigger all round to allow for alignment errors...

    Socket to sink distance

It certainly wasn't right in my view but is now being ripped out along with the rest of the wiring, and of course the sink! But having a socket 200mm away won't stop anyone using it with wet hands, indeed they could still cross the kitchen to another socket with wet hands, a little less likely...

    Socket to sink distance

I had thought it was something like arm's length away from water but I understand that there is no actual reg. So, when the electrician who originally surveyed the house highlighted the socket over the sink as a problem, there was technically nothing actually WRONG with it, just not good...

    Socket to sink distance

Is there a regulation on socket distance from kitchen sink or a recommendation if not regulation?

    meter tails in 25mm conduit

Does anyone know if a pair of 25 sq mm 100A meter tails (and 16mm earth) will pull through 25 mm plastic conduit? It's got 2 bends in it. Assuming 25mm is the OD of the conduit it looks possible but tight to me. What can be used as a lubricant if this would help? I could thread the tails...

Separation of electric cable from gas meter/pipes

What are the requirements for separation between electric cables and a) gas meter, b) gas pipes. I've seen something somewhere about 150mm but can't find it again. :?

Plastic capping and boxes when damp

We are definitely not talking about water running along cables here! It's just a matter of preventing corrosion on the metalwork due to the moisture and salts in the bricks, whilst the walls dry out. They are already starting to dry having had the plaster off and earth floor out for 6 weeks...

Plastic capping and boxes when damp

Hmm, sounds expensive the number of sockets we're putting in! Maybe a layer of duct tape will do the job. Could do the capping as well. I'm prepared to make some effort rather than surface mount everything. :)

Plastic capping and boxes when damp

Thanks for all this, I had wondered about putting paint on, maintaining earth integrity of course. It would be fairly quick to do as looks aren't exactly important! Changing after a year doesn't sound good as cutting neat holes in these variable bricks is unlikely. Capping could likewise be...

Conduit for tails on outside wall

If it's metal, I presume it has to be earth bonded so how do you get a bond onto conduit going into a plastic utility box?

Conduit for tails on outside wall

Thanks for that. I know it's going to be big. :D
