Cheap SDS to cut cores or should i be spending more?

There seems to be a big gap between the £20-£50 for a 6kg 1000ish watt unit and their £300 branded brothers of equivalent size. Can anyone make a suggestion for a unit that will do the coring for me but offer a bit more reliability/ life for around £100. Maybe 6kg is a bit big for the other jobs...

Cheap SDS to cut cores or should i be spending more?

Hi, I was going to hire a core drill from my local hire shop but when i looked into the cost of hire (£40+Vat) i realised that it would be only marginally more expensive to buy a no frills SDS drill from Screwfix and a core cutter from ebay. (i only have two cores to cut so i'm not worried if...

    What Sander

It's rare that I answer a question rather than ask one. I spent ages looking into floor sanders when i wanted to do it. The usual high street hire shops rent the drum type sanders which can cause the floor to be gouged out if the plate that holds the sanding sheets comes into contact with...

    Ventilation of drylined garage

I don't think there is any isulation. Would you put half of the airbricks at the top of the room and the other half towards the bottom so there is a flow of air through the room? If I am going to do this I could also put a kitchen/ bathroom fan in as well to make sure the air gets circulated.

    Ventilation of drylined garage

Forgot measure the room last night but it is a single garage so i guess it is about 7m long and 3m wide, 2.5m high So i just need air bricks and some ducts to take it through the dry lining. How many is the question.

    Ventilation of drylined garage

Hi, I have looked at the various posts on ventilation and damp and none seem to answer my specific question. I have just moved into a house which has a detached garage. The previous owners converted the garage into a recording studio by dry lining the walls. The room is now semi...

    Painting a damp cellar

Hi, Thanks for replying, my concern is that the waterproof paint will trap the moisture on the wrong side of the paint and cause the stone walls to deteriate. I can not fix the damp problem because the walls are stone and also the neighbours on both sides have tried with little luck. All I am...

    Painting a damp cellar

Hi, I have tried searching for this but there are just too many irrelevant results (inc. how to get petrolium jelly out of your hair! how did that get returned from a 'cellar paint" search??). If anyone can direct me to the right place please let me know. I am wanting to repaint my cellar...

    Leaking Monoblock tap

Ok, I've been to MFI and they only guarantee the taps for 12 months as opposed to 5 or even 10 years for the same tap from other suppliers. How do monoblock taps split? I want to look inside it as the tap is now useless and before i shell out for another one want to check it is not something...

    Leaking Monoblock tap

I have searched but could not find a suitable result, if i have missed it please direct me to the right place. My bathroom sink monoblock appears to be leaking. I do not think it is through the tails as water is dripping down the fixing threads rather than the flexible hoses. Also it appears...

loft conversion & building regs question

Hi, I am looking into buying a property that needs total redecoration. One area where there is scope to increase living space is in the attic. The attic has been converted in both neighbouring houses with velux window type conversions. I am considering a similar conversion but there are...

gap between floor boards and wall

Sorry, i should have explained my problem better: The floorboards are not a feature, there is laminate on top. My question should have been: Is it OK to seal the gap around the floor and wall or is it needed to let the under floor cavity breath? Should i fill the gap with expanding...

gap between floor boards and wall

Hi, I have a kitchen which was striped back and replastered and then the units were fitted. There was a gap between the floorboards and the plastered walls. This gap is covered by the skirting board where there are not units. However, where there are units the gap is present. This is not a...

knocking in brads/ nails in t&g floor boards

I have found a solution that has worked: Get a narrow cold chissle and grind the end so that it has a tip the same size as the head of the nail. Used with a reasonable hammer this worked ok for me. I used a professional belt sander to do the floors and this did not hesitate at the nails at...

    Holding the glass in.

Hi, I can not find this question on previous posts but sorry if it has already been asked. I am due to replace some single glazed units for DG over the weekend, the frames are wooden so I intend to rout out the additional depth of the recess. What is the best way of holding the glazing...

Replacing a CU switch for an RCD

Thanks for all the advice, I have however found this product: http://www.toolstation.com/?code=96020 (the GE shower unit) which i will use instead (unless someone recomends against it). I have not seen the wiring diagram for it yet but i assume that it is wired: output from MCB -> into...

Replacing a CU switch for an RCD

Thanks for the advise so far. I actually purchased a second 2 slot CU at the same time. How would this connect to the incomer though? Is it connected with a second set of tails from the main incomer or is it connected with tails coupled to the incomer to the first board? My incomer has an...
