Having a real tough time removing what I think is old carpet glue from stairs...advice needed pls!

Thanks for the replies. I've managed to get rid of all the old paint layers with a heat gun and a scraper...bloody back breaking work. I'm going to start sanding tomorrow with 40, 80 then 180 grit before staining. Worst comes to worst we'll end up with a darker stain in the middle...nothing I...

Having a real tough time removing what I think is old carpet glue from stairs...advice needed pls!

I guess I don't have much of a choice but trying to melt the stuff on and sanding. Can't buy the decent Nitromors anymore and probably wouldn't want to use it due to the fumes.

Having a real tough time removing what I think is old carpet glue from stairs...advice needed pls!

We bought the house around 25 years ago and had it completely redecorated and can't remember what was on the staircase but think it was all carpet. The people we bought it off had lived in the house since it was built. I understand in the 50's it was common to have a carpeted runner with painted...

Having a real tough time removing what I think is old carpet glue from stairs...advice needed pls!

There's some other stains of the same colour as you can see too. I'm hoping that once I come to put my dark oak stain down it won't be too bad but in the meantime I've got to find a way of getting rid of the undercoat of that's what it is. Are you saying the dark staining in the middle is...

Having a real tough time removing what I think is old carpet glue from stairs...advice needed pls!

Here you go. The top image is the untreated tread & riser, the bottom one after heatgun, scraper and 40 grit (and a lot of hard work!). You'll notice there's 3 shades of what appears to be paint, the darker coloured brown stuff is what's causing the problem and may not be glue, perhaps...

Having a real tough time removing what I think is old carpet glue from stairs...advice needed pls!

Hi All, I've removed the carpet from the stairs with a view to sanding down, staining and then applying a lacquer finish. The house was built in 1947 or thereabouts and I'm going to assume the original carpet runner was stuck down with the edges painted. The problem I'm having is that even...

Looking for a replacement fixed shower head...do I have a weird size?

Hi All, Our fixed above bath fixed show head needs replacing. I took it off this evening and it appears to be a 22mm thread. All the websites I've been on seem to only sell them suitable for a 1/2 inch fitting. Am I going to need to replace the arm as well? Cheers Daz

Fitting a new bath with existing tiles...advice needed

Sorry. Thanks for the reply. I was told that you shouldn't seal on a tile because of the grout. It can form a weak channel and then start leaking. Is that right?

    Acrylic bath recommendations wanted

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to go either for a Carron or a Trojan bath. I can't afford their Trojancast or Carronite finish so hope their 'standard' baths are infinitely better than say the Cooke & Lewis baths on the B&Q website.

Is it okay to seal on to tiles?

Fitting a new bath with existing tiles...advice needed

I'll be able to lower the new bath yes but the problem is the height of the bath panels.

Fitting a new bath with existing tiles...advice needed

Hi All, I'm going to be replacing my bath shortly with one which is a different height. This will probably mean the edge of the bath will go above the existing tile line. Am I okay with sealing the bath's edge on to a tile rather than below it? Cheers Daz

    Acrylic bath recommendations wanted

Looking into this a little more seriously now has uncovered brands / types such as Thermocast, Trojancast, Corronite, Armourcast! Their all different pricing but all quite pricey and I don't want to waste money. Can anyone recommend or slate any of them so I can narrow down my list?

    Acrylic bath recommendations wanted

I'd remove the old bath and access is very good. Just wanted to get an idea of what a pro may charge.

    Acrylic bath recommendations wanted

Thanks for that. The baths look good. Would you have an idea what a plumber would charge to fit taps, waste, install and seal it?

    Acrylic bath recommendations wanted

Hi All, I need a new bath and have been told that the reason why there's such a variance in prices is due to the thickness of acrylic used. This makes sense. Can anyone recommend a standard white acrylic bath built to last? Cheers Daz

Thanks but what I need in addition to that is the 3 arm bracket which mounts on to the back of the drum.

Caple tumble dryer spare part - pulling my hair out!

Hi All, I have a Caple Tdi 110 integrated tumble dryer. The three arm spider bracket which mounts the bearing to the drum has broken and I've managed to remove it by drilling out the 3 retaining rivets. The problem is I'm unable to locate a replacement spider bracket. Has anyone else had this...
