    Loft joist questions

I've just taken down my kitchen ceiling as part of my refurb and am wondering what's the best way to do the new joists? I store quite a bit of "junk" up there and it's accessible by a flight of alternate stairs so it does have regular foot traffic, therefore needs to be able to take a...

UPVC window problem. Repair or replace?

It's hard to tell from your pics whether the frame is sat correctly onto the cill, if it is then there should be a small upstand to the back of the cill which forms a barrier against the back of the window frame. This should be sealed all along with silicone to prevent any possible draught or...

Future proof oven and hob circuits

Deffo don't want two switches, I was hoping I wouldn't even need one! (On view anyway) as I think they look a bit ugly. It'll be well within the 2 metre range assuming you mean distance from socket to appliance and not the length of the cable? Regards

Future proof oven and hob circuits

Great! So just to clarify: 32A mcb - 6mm cable - 45a dual outlet plate inside base unit - 2x 6mm cable to oven and hob I take it this means the isolation for both is the breaker at the consumer unti? That ok? Regards

    Do I insulate around hearth

Thanks John, I'd feel better knowing I'd blocked all the gaps beneath the new floorboards as there's one hell of a draft from the air bricks (which is good I know). Also, is it worth putting down a layer of dpm before the final concrete pour? Regards

Future proof oven and hob circuits

Ok so thanks for all the replies so far, I think I might have worded the thread title wrong which I see now is causing some debate! By "future proofing" I literally meant like a few months (maybe sooner) when we upgrade cooking appliances. Tbh I have already bought the 6mm cable as I...

    Do I insulate around hearth

Ok thanks, do you mean a 100mm clearance in height or from the hearth edge, or both? Regards

Future proof oven and hob circuits

Deadshort is there a specific reason you recommend 10mm? EFLI do you mean one 6mm cable as in one circuit split into two at ccu or one 6mm cable for each appliance from separate mcb's? Thanks

Future proof oven and hob circuits

Oh ok that's sounds logical, 10mm just to the ccu or the whole lot? Thanks

Future proof oven and hob circuits

I'm fitting a new kitchen but am using the existing double oven and electric hob for now as they both work fine and the wife and I haven't decided if we'll be having the same setup when we upgrade. We will probably go for induction hob and either double oven again or single oven and built in...
