Replacing a switch with a dimmer?

I have a single switch turning on a single light (the lights only permits up to 60w). I have brought a single dimmer (from wickes) and left the earth where it was and put the red which was in l1 into l1 on the dimmer and the other red into the squiqqle. The light does not turn on. Any ideas?

Removing a unused gas outlet and ventilation

Last year we had our gas fire removed (buy a corgi register gas fitter). About 6 foot to the left of the fire was an air vent. I have since block up the fire place and am contemplating blocking the air vent as I understand this is only there because of the original fire. Is this correct...

Advice on a very dodgy double glazing fit

Agree, they have re done all the sealant now, so if it goes again thats exactly what I will be doing along with removing the internal window trim and plasterering up to the frame (as they left gaps to cover the old silicone that was still stuck to the wall). Would anyone suggest using the...

Advice on a very dodgy double glazing fit

The fitters have come back, they are here now, but he is pretty clueless. He is re doing all the sealant and I checked it is the low modulus stuff. In relation to the wind he is re fitting some different blocks, has checked the glass and has re sealed all the gaps. He can't think of...

Hi I have complained to FENSA twice. Once due to the gaps between the window and brick and subsequent cold air (I thought it breached the regulation in relation to heat loss). They were only interested if I could see daylight!! Second time was when I realised the fitter should have...

Kitchen sink niffs now and again - prevention cures / reason

ok thanks, i will check the trap on the wm side in the morning. The smell is definately coming up through the sink and from what I can work out the w/m waste is protected as its below the sink waste so the water in the sink waste will stop the smell from the wm or have i got that wrong?. I...

Advice on a very dodgy double glazing fit

The trickle vents were on the old windows. FENSA told me they were writing to him about 'other' issues also as he didn't bother ringing them again after he said he was going to 'check his records'. I seriously think I would deck him if I saw him again its made me that mad. This...
