    Asbestos flue?

Sorry all, I am adding to the collection of asbestos related questions. Over the past 2 days I've had a new boiler installed, moved upstairs etc. This leaves the old flue redundant. As it goes through the kitchen and bedroom I have removed it. It was an asbestos cement flue which was able...

Electricians guide to the building regs?

Building regs probably haven't changed?. I liked the EGBR, it told you socket heights etc which I don't believe are in BGB or OSG. Before I went and bought the 2008 edition, I was wondering if there was a 2011 edition out or due. But maybe neither :-)

Electricians guide to the building regs?

I gave away my copy of electrician guide to the building regs (iee book). I thought I'd wait for the ammended version before replacing it. I can't seem to find it. I don't suppose anyone knows if and when it's going to turn up? Thanks, Chris.

    Insulating behind hung tiles.

No that should work. I'll use 60mm GA4000 between studwork then 24.5mm pl4000. There's some play on the radiator pipework so shouldn't be any trouble. Thanks all for your help! Chris.

    Insulating behind hung tiles.

Yup true. As the radiator is on that wall, raising it off isn't really an option?

    Insulating behind hung tiles.

Catlad, thanks for your reply. This sounds good. I've been researching into the insulated plasterboard but its really thick isnt it? If so this would lift off the wall, and cutting in the dryliner boxes would be a bit tricky?

    Insulating behind hung tiles.

Good morning all, Our house upstairs is at parts, of a timber frame construction. On the front we have hung tiles and at the rear bricks, I imagine single skin. I started to cut the plasterboard out to stick some sockets in (behind the hung tiles) and have realised the lack of insulation...

    Solar water heater system.

Hi, thanks for your replies. If it is independent then you're right, I won't fiddle with the wiring. Boiler: Potterton kingfisher? Solar controller: Suntana 2 (looks foreign) Sorry about picture quality. Thanks

    Solar water heater system.

Hello everybody, I am in the process of buying a house that has solar water heaters on the roof. It is west facing and therefore has 2 collectors. I estimate the installation is about 10years old. Firstly is there a service that I can get carried out on this? I wired one of these up for...

Wired house alarm with the use of SMS.

This might have just highlighted a crucial point for me. It has to be taken on by an alarming company to suffice for insurance purposes?

Wired house alarm with the use of SMS.

Being honest, because I believed it would be a more secure sensor? Maybe this isn't the case?

Wired house alarm with the use of SMS.

Thanks all, Sparkymarka the system you advise of seems perfect. I've been making a shopping list: Texecom Premier 48 Kit Grade 3 + Prox Keypad + COM2400 Texecom Premier LCD Prox Keypad White (LCD-P) Grade 3 (We would like a keypad at the top of the stairs so we could alarm the downstairs...

Wired house alarm with the use of SMS.

Dear all, We're looking to buy a house and I'm just getting a heads up on alarm systems. I'm a qualified electrician but with little experience of the alarm market. I would like a wired system with 5 door contacts, 6 window contacts, 8 PIR sensors, an internal and external siren and 1...

    Hollow sounding external walls?

Sorry for not getting back on here sooner. Thanks all for your help and advice. I am speaking with the mortgage lender this afternoon so fingers crossed they might see this as a traditional building. A customer of mine happened to once have had a cross wall construction house. They had...

    Hollow sounding external walls?

Ok, thanks so much for your advice. In your experience do you know if there are any downsides to this and also do you think it will have any implication on our mortgage application? Thanks again.

    Hollow sounding external walls?

Dear all, Me and my girlfriend are fortunate to be in the position to buy our first house. We have seen one we like but I'm curious to the construction. We believe it was built in the 60s, 70s. Most of the external walls have a hollow tap to them, the joining wall to next door sounds...

    Not enough hot water.

Hi all, We live in a ground floor flat. We have a Baxi Megaflow boiler and what seems like a large storage tank (see pics). We only get enough hot water to quarter fill a bath, or for a few minute shower before the hot water dries up. The boiler will kick in about 1min after the water has...

Excuse my naivety but if that's the case then would the only book to be amended be the regs book? Thanks.

    18th Edition any time soon?

Hi All, I'm just in the last year of my 2330 and I'm booked into a course to do the 17th Edition in March. We were doing some work that required a table from GN3. I'm quite happy to spend money on books that will support me so thought I'd look into buying it, but its £20. I plan on doing...
