    Noisy Grundfos Pump

Thanks for your reply. It's not often I get a lie-in but we're snowed in so no boys footy club this morning. Our bedroom is directly above the boiler (18 year old oil fired Camray Quartet) and the pump is is our bedroom airing cupboard so basically if anything gets noisier I'll hear it. I...

    Noisy Grundfos Pump

My GRUNDFOS SUPER SELECTRIC CENTRAL HEATING PUMP 15-60 has recently started making a humming noise. It's currently set to 2. If I turn it down to 1 the noise goes, at 3 it's even noisier. What's causing the humming sound and how to cure it? What speed should my pump be set at anyway...

    Oil Boiler lockout problem revisited.

Talking of boiler services, is there a description anywhere of all the things that should be done in an annual boiler service?

    Oil Boiler lockout problem revisited.

Boiler just locked out again. Took 5 presses of the reset button to get it going. First couple of presses I got a very slight hum. Then a louder hum. Then a louder hum and a click. Then finally it fired up. I don't know if that narrows down the diagnosis at all. Thanks

    Oil Boiler lockout problem revisited.

I have a spare capacitor. How long do they normally last as I only had one replaced about 3 or 4 years ago?

    Oil Boiler lockout problem revisited.

I don't seem to have much luck with heating engineers :-( I've been on oil for 10 years and had 4 different engineers in that time. The first guy came recommended and did appear (obviously I'm not a qualified heating engineer) to do a very thorough job (I used to watch him out of...

    Oil Boiler lockout problem revisited.

Re the other posters' questions. The guy was here for nearly two hours and no I didn't watch him. The problem started early this year but was very intermittent. maybe only 3 or 4 times then ran fine all summer / autumn but started again in October. I did mention it at the time of the...

    Oil Boiler lockout problem revisited.

Can that be repaired or will it have to be replaced? Also how can you tell if the motor and or oil pump are faulty rather than just the capacitor? Thanks

    Oil Boiler lockout problem revisited.

Thank you Danoil and oilhead for your prompt replies. The engineer is coming back and did suggest over the phone that was either the pump or motor (without me prompting). I feel maybe I should question whether that should have been picked up on the service but that runs the risk of...

    Oil Boiler lockout problem revisited.

Hi I've posted before about my Camray Quartet oil boiler that suffers from intermittent lockout problems. It was problematic early this year ran fine for the spring and summer and has just start playing up again. So far it's always been cured with a simple press of the reset button...

Where can I get the correct new capacitor for my boiler?

The problem started around February this year but was pretty infrequent so I just pressed the reset button. It does appear to be a case of the motor not starting i.e. the room stat kicks in but nothing happens on the boiler no fan noise etc just straight to lockout. It started happening about...

Where can I get the correct new capacitor for my boiler?

Thanks to burnerman and oilboffin for their replies. I sourced the capacitor in the end from this company: www.buyplumbingonline.co.uk Although I actually bought it from their ebay shop: http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/buyplumbingonline?_trksid=p2047675.l2559 As it was quite a bit...

Where can I get the correct new capacitor for my boiler?

Thanks for the prompt reply John. I had a look at www.heating-parts.co.uk My capacitor looks like this one: http://www.heating-parts.co.uk/Product.asp?Prd=266460 Threaded at one end and two long white cables at the other. I couldn't see a 4uF one on their site when searching...

Central Heating pipe noise driving me insane please help!

I've been doing some further investigation and accessing where I think the noise is coming from isn't as tricky as I first thought as it appears to be coming from below the chipboard flooring in a sloping roof recess which I can get to. The immersion heater is also in the bedroom about 10ft...

Central Heating pipe noise driving me insane please help!

Thanks for the prompt reply. I assume then it's some kind of expansion problem as the pipes heat up and there's no other solution apart from what you recommended? :-( Thanks.

Central Heating pipe noise driving me insane please help!

Hi all. Recently my central heating has been making a constant tapping noise which I assume is coming from the pipes. I wouldn't be so bothered except it's right where I sleep. I think but am not sure that it only happens when the downstairs circuit is active. The tapping starts when the...

    Boiler lockout problem

Thanks again John This may be a complete red herring but I remember once a service guy telling me the location of the flue is not ideal in that if you get wind in a certain direction it may blow gasses back in to the boiler. The last couple of days like everyone else we've had extremely strong...
