    Support work

Hi there JennyC. I can probably be of only limited help here, as I'm not a professional. But, as you've stated, it sounds like the problems we were trying to overcome were similar. We also specified that we wanted no piers and luckily we were able to get away with it. The structural surveyor...

Method for fixing skirting over hard floor....

Hi big-all, many thanks for the reply. It's a floating floor and in some places it's not that level so we have gaps of a cm under the boards and in other places it's touching the floor. The skirting boards are to be painted. Surely if I try to fill the gaps it will look awful? How would you...

Method for fixing skirting over hard floor....

Hi there. I have a carpenter in at the moment as I don't have time to do it myself, but we're not happy with the results as there are uneven gaps under the skirting boards. I'd stressed I didn't want gaps. Can I just confirm that I'm right In saying that the correct way to do it is to find...

Flow rate drops off too much - unvented cylinder

Right, I've learned a lot here, many thanks for all your replies. It's hard to think back but yes I think the flow rate was better when it was first installed, so hopefully it's as simple as being a blockage in the supply to the cylinder. Locally they are also doing a lot of work on the...

Flow rate drops off too much - unvented cylinder

Sorry, I'm not with you there. Could you expand slightly on that please holty? What's a combo valve? Thanks Agile for your many points. I'll be checking the flow rate with a bucket as soon as I can - then I'll probably be back here for more advice! They weren't cowboys and I have the...

Flow rate drops off too much - unvented cylinder

Thanks guys, we'll get that checked. So, apart from that, would you expect the pressure/flow to drop off after a few seconds with both hot and cold running? Does my theory sound reasonable that the cold supply is now doing 3 things i.e. refilling the cylinder/pressurising the hot and running...

Flow rate drops off too much - unvented cylinder

The cylinder is now 9 months old, where's the filter? I'll check the stop tap but I'm sure it's fully open. Not sure whether pressure and flow were checked when it was installed but I remember the plumbers saying water supply was sufficient for it to be installed.

Flow rate drops off too much - unvented cylinder

Hi there, I don't think there's a resolution to this problem, but just in case... We had a Megaflo fitted, when I run the bath tap now, with both hot and cold running, initially the flow is great but then it backs off a lot and takes a long time to fill the bath. My theory is that the cold...

Replacing expansion vessel on condensing boiler

So what does the auto air vent do? Would you recommend replacing it, I'm tempted to just leave it and see what happens.

Replacing expansion vessel on condensing boiler

Hi there, yes it's a red vessel to the left of the boiler. The valve at the top is like the top picture. Still isn't leaking any more since repressurising the system, will be keeping an eye on it, it's bound to do it again I suppose. Many thanks, very grateful.

Replacing expansion vessel on condensing boiler

OK, so now I've got home. The system had lost quite a bit of pressure - so I've filled it up to the mark on the pressure gauge. Could this have caused the vessel to become over pressured, and if so how is that? Got it working again now and so far no leaks, I could see that it had been leaking...

Replacing expansion vessel on condensing boiler

Thanks doitall. Well i'll just have to see later on.... If the prv (I take it that means pressure relief valve) is discharging the water, what could be wrong with the expansion vessel? Thanks again

Replacing expansion vessel on condensing boiler

Hi there, I have a Worcester Bosch Greenstar R28HE System boiler, which according to my other half has sprung a leak from the expansion vessel. I'm thinking of getting the part and replacing it myself - is this a bad idea? If the vessel is split does that pint to a bigger problem or do they go...

    Help please 2x fan nightmare!!

Many thanks for the replies. The fan the sparky wired in is a icon low voltage with a timer module, no PIR/humidistat. He originally wired it to come on with low voltage bathroom downlights and through an isolator switch. It sort of worked ok but when isolated all the ceiling lights came on...

    Help please 2x fan nightmare!!

Hi rebuke, thanks for your reply. This has already caused much scratching of heads, the electrician just can't come up with anything better. I've looked at how he's wired it and it's how I would have done it.

    Help please 2x fan nightmare!!

Hi there, yes I know it's yet another fan question, sorry - I have searched before on this but I'm still confused. So, had place partly rewired by electrician, we have problems with fans in 2 bathrooms. Ideally I wanted the fans to come on with the lights and then when the lights go off run...

Laying skirtings on top of undulating wooden floor

Hmm, many thanks for the replies guys. So, I suppose I need to cut all the skirting to the right lengths first, to go round the room so I can see how bad it's going to be and then decide what I'm going to do. Not looking forward to cutting this strips off with a jigsaw, it's never going to...

Laying skirtings on top of undulating wooden floor

Hi there, I've fitted plenty of skirting before in my house but only where the carpet will but up to it. How do I lay skirting on top of a wooden floor but get it to sit down on top of the floor without having a big gap in some places and no gap in others? Am I right in guessing you're supposed...

    Levelling a shower tray ....

Hi there, hope someone can help me here. How do you normally level a shower tray which doesn't have a leg set? It's quite a heavy thing. Many thanks.
