Draining down Rads to fit new 3 way Motor Valve

It wasn't a gate valve with the red handle, it was in-line type where a flat bladed screwdriver is needed to turn it on/off. Guess I must have broken something internally, luckily in the shut position. I was worried the new isolator wouldn't fit as the threads might be different, but I think it...

Draining down Rads to fit new 3 way Motor Valve

All done, well almost done, I isolated the header tank, cleaned the tank, drained the system and then I swapped out the 3 way valve complete with wiring. The header tank was completely full of muck, luckily the exit hole was on the side so I don't think too much could get into the system. When...

Draining down Rads to fit new 3 way Motor Valve

Good tip, I will clean out the header tank first, before refilling, I usually add the inhibitor to the Magnefine cylinder which I believe is OK.

Draining down Rads to fit new 3 way Motor Valve

Hi All, the three way valve in my central heating/hot water system has failed so I'm now planning on replacing the entire valve and motor unit. This is probably the 4th time I've changed it in the 20 years I've lived in the house. The current Siemens 3PMP-V22 has lasted over 7 years but I've...

Garden office blocking light from nextdoors house

Thanks for the replies, I went round to speak with the neighbor and gave him a list of exactly how we had constructed the building together with some pictures. In order to get more light into his garden & house I suggested that I was willing to cut down some smallish trees on our side of the...

Garden office blocking light from nextdoors house

Hi All, I need some advice on an issue thats recently developed between ourselves and our neighbor. Bit of a long story but here goes:- - we have a link detached house which is offset by 3m with next door - next door decided to build a pergola right across the rear of their house and have it...

    Sound Insulation for Garden Office

Thanks for the comments, I agree that the roof is the main problem but it looks like there's not much that can be done, short of retrofitting a real tiled roof with appropriate sound/heat insulation. Between the motorway and the house there is already a sound proof fence supplied by the Dept of...

    Sound Insulation for Garden Office

Hi All, I would like to know what materials will help reduce road noise in my garden home office currently under construction. The office is about 100ft away from a busy motorway and was previously a timber framed lean to pergola with a 16mm triple wall poly-carbonate roof converted to an...

Vertical Flue terminal through flat roof

Thanks guys, I had another quote today from a RGI installer who confirmed that the flue definetly needs to be 30cm away from the exterior wall. He came up with a solution involving two 45degree elbows in the flue inside the flat roof which will move the flue well away from the exterior wall and...

Vertical Flue terminal through flat roof

I'm in the process of having an old combi boiler replaced with a new one in the same location. An installer has surveyed the site and mentioned that the vertical flue which currently exits through a flat roof fails gas safety rules since its terminal is not 30cm away from the house exterior...

Heatline Viso Plus 24 Diverter Valve

I have a heatline viso plus 24 which has a recurring problem with the diverter valve. Whats happening is that after rebuilding the DV with a kit, all works fine for a few months but then there is no heating as the DV is stuck in hot water mode. When there is a call for heating I can hear the...

    Bathroom extractor fan advice needed

Sorry for not being clear, I will try and explain a bit better. I am going out through an external wall, however as the bathroom is directly above a conservatory I cant get access from outside for a core drill. Instead the plan for the external vent is slightly to the side of the bathroom where...

    Bathroom extractor fan advice needed

Hi All, I have a problem with mold in my bathroom and want to install an extractor fan to remove excess moisture. My household has 3 young adults, 2 middle aged adults and one child together with one main bathroom and an en-suite in the master bedroom. As you can imagine, having younger...

    Best exterior wood paint

Hi All, I'm about to repaint the window frames on my three bed semi and would like some advise on the best paint to use. The house was built in the mid 90's and has wooden framed doubled glazed windows. The windows have been painted many times and the paint only seems to last a couple of years...

Wiring up a Salus RT300RF and Worcester Greenstar Ri 12

Yesterday I plucked up the courage and decided to wire in the Salus RT300RF. I decided a two phased approach was best, the first phase was to tidy up the existing wiring and make sure it all still worked. The second phase was to wire in the new base unit. In the first phase I decided to replace...

Wiring up a Salus RT300RF and Worcester Greenstar Ri 12

My heating and hot water setup uses a Worcester Greenstar Ri 12 boiler together with a gravity hot water tank with thermostat, a Siemens 3 port mid position valve/actuator, a Potterton EP2 programmer and a Drayton RTS1 thermostat. The thermostat is placed directly above one of the radiators in...

    Flue in Conservatory

Thanks all, decided to relocate the boiler by moving it directly upwards into the small bedroom above and mounted on the outer wall. The flue can then exit directly from the wall in the standard manner. The boiler will then be hidden from view by building a cupboard around it.

    Flue in Conservatory

Thanks Agile, actually it is only two of us, so sounds like simply replacing with a new condensing heat only boiler is a good option. I was thinking about replacing the old boiler with a Worcester Greenstar Ri 12 which has the same heat output (12Kw) as my current Potterton Prima F40. The...
