Advice on insulating north facing box room

We leave the window open most of the day to help dry things out which works to some extent. The culprit is the bed - it has drawers built in underneath it so there's no air circulation behind the bed. The wall behind the bed constantly feels cold and this is the area that feels damp in a...

Advice on insulating north facing box room

Hi, My son's bedroom suffers from condensation on the walls behind his bed. The house his a 1920's semi and has virtually no cavity and we've been advised it's not worth filling. His bedroom is at the corner so has two external walls - one north facing and the other west. His bed his on the...

How to fill a big hole round soil pipe externally

Its plastic pipe. I had to lift the paving slab yesterday and was shocked when to find half of it was only supported by a wall in the cellar below. There was a 2ft by 2ft hole under the slab into the cellar.

How to fill a big hole round soil pipe externally

I've had to lift a paving slab at the front ofy house today for a gas meter move. This brought all the mortar from around the soil pipe leaving a massive gap. Under the gap is hollow (theres a cellar there) so dont know how they originally filled this big gap. Can anyone suggest how i'd go about...

    Re-locating bathroom - soil / waste advice

Cant drop the ceiling as the window and door frame are almost at ceiling height. If i take the pipe into the kitchen, i can go below ceiling level and box it in to get the required drop. This would mean creating a couple of bends in the pipe though - is this ok with toilet waste?

    Re-locating bathroom - soil / waste advice

Hi, I'm renovating an old one bed back to back. My plan is to turn the bathroom into a second bedroom and split the current bedroom to create a bathroom as the room is massive. The new bathroom will have no external walls so I've got a bit of a challenge with running the soil pipe to the front...

maximum length of horizontal soil pipe run

OK. at a push, I can lower the ceiling of the living room below to get a decent fall. It's a high room so dropping it won't be a big issue if needed. My main concern is the 6 metre rule as I'm going to have to get the council in to sign it off. Does the addition of an AAV near the toilet end...

maximum length of horizontal soil pipe run

I thought the minimum fall was 18mm per metre? I was going to aim for 20-25mm. My other option is to run the pipe internally but would require a few bends - is there a limit to the number of bends you can have on a soil pipe? Third option is saniflo - not sure if these are any good or not?

maximum length of horizontal soil pipe run

Hi, I'm renovating a back to back terrace and want to move the bathroom to create an extra bedroom. This means the new bathroom will be at the back of the house. I plan to run the soil pipe from the back of the house (about 4.5 metre) between the joists, out of the front, 90 degree bend then...

    towel radiator valve dripping

won't have chance to look at this till I get home later but just have another question. I've read that newer valves have an o ring rather than packing material? Would I need to completely strip the valve down to get to the O ring if it has one?

    towel radiator valve dripping

Hi, One of my towel rad valves has started dripping from the nut at the top of the spindle (i've circled it on the attached picture). If I close the valve the dripping stops. Is there a simple fix for this so I can avoid replacing the valve? Thanks in advance, Rob.

    changing flooring direction between rooms

Thanks for the replies so far. The rooms are only quite small and there will be less than 10 running metres so I was planning to have the kitchen and living room without a break (but good expansion gaps around frames etc) and then put an threshold expansion gap between the living room and...

    changing flooring direction between rooms

Hi, I'm about to lay a laminate floor in my mums flat an I'm a bit unsure about what direction to lay it in. I know it should lay in the direction of the incoming light which means I can lay the kitchen and living room in the same direction. This would mean the the floor would be going across...

    external staircase question

Hi, We currently have a garage attached to the rear of our house where the flat roof is used as a large balcony. Behind this, we have a garden. The height from garden to garage roof is just over 2 metres. I am looking to get a wooden staircase installed from the garden to the balcony...
