Two light circuits off a single FCU?

I am just in the process of planning the electric to go into my extension. I am going to be inserting a couple of mains sockets into the main ring but then was planning on having a couple of FCUs (3A), one for feeding some interior lights and a 2nd for feeding the exterior lights. (Ring is RCD...

    Eaves Tiles - Angle

I have just nearly finished tiling my extension and noticed I 'may' have not quite got the level of the bottom of the first row of tiles right. The first row of tiles are sitting at a slightly more sloped angle than the rest, this is down to me not supporting them high enough so they are as if...

Insulation in Pitched Roof - Air gap required?

AH - My understanding was slightly wrong then. Sounds like I am doing a 'cold' roof. Even tho i will only have around 25mm gap between the top of the insulation and the tiles (well the breathable membrane will be draped down into that) will i need vented or unvents soffits? Today when i...

Insulation in Pitched Roof - Air gap required?

Thanks for the info. I'm doing a warm roof with breathable membrane so didn't think I needed this 50mm air gap. As it is I will probably be needing some insulation below the rafters to get down to the 0.2U but not needing the 50mm gap obviously helps reduce the size needed.

Insulation in Pitched Roof - Air gap required?

I'm building a pitched roof which has 125mm rafters. I am looking to use Kingspan K7/K18 insulation to get to the 0.2U value required. Looking at the documentation for the K7 it states its possible "Fully Filled Insulation Between Rafters & Under Rasfters". But I have also seem mention of...

    Lead Flashing vs Alternatives

Thanks for the info - went for proper lead in the end, although I probably won't be in the property long enough to benefit, as said it will end up being a better job (and one less debate to have with BC)

    Lead Flashing vs Alternatives

I am looking at the next stage of my pitched roof extension. The roof will be having flat interlocking tiles so the join to the existing house is nice and simple. The flashing I am going to be installing will be mostly hidden behind uPVC panelling with around 50mm exposed before folding out...

Removing a uPVC Panel from a Door

To the side of my door is a half height uPVC panel. I would like to remove this so I can find out how thick it is to get a replacement panel to fit a cat flap to. I've tried to see if I can un-pop the side strips but can't see how to. I can't even get a knife blade between the two bits of...

Pitched Rood - Final Rafter Position

AH sorry - You said "Floor" joist not ceiling. I'm going with a vaulted ceiling so the rafters will be acting as the ceiling joists. I understand what you mean with the ceiling joists.

Pitched Rood - Final Rafter Position

Thanks for the information. Can you explain how the roof rafter positions affects the floor joist positions? I was not planning to have barge boards, The outer wall was going to be the final support with a fibreboard to give me a 40mm overhang Luckily I only have a 1.7m span so I...

Pitched Rood - Final Rafter Position

Hi, I am looking at converting my conservatory to an extension. Got my head round most of the various aspects that I have to make sure to keep the BCO happy but one area I am not 100% sure about is where the final rafter should sit on either side. Below is a birds eye picture showing the...

    Convert sunroom into habitable room

Sorry to drag up an old thread - just wondering how you got on with this. Importantly when you had Building Control around what did they say about the foundations? I'm in a similar position and I just want to change the roof but they are making life hard for me even though the structure...

Putting Cat Flap in glass (with metal strands)

I'm wondering if its possible to 'easily' cut glass which has metal strands within the glass? I am looking to fit a cat flap to the lower part of the door pictured below but not sure if its possible to cut the glass like normal glass with a circle glass cutter. If its not possible I am...

CH Problem - CH not turning on

Not got my multimeter to had at the mo so can't check the wires. Looks like a bit of a botch job the way they have all been crushed into a box. Looking at the valve it looks like.... Hot water only on - Valve switched to "W" Hot water & CH on - Valve switched to "M" Hot water off & CH...

CH Problem - CH not turning on

Thanks for the comments - there is a control box in the airing cupboard so I will check voltages in there. MANDATE -> Even if I had a faulty motor would you expect the boiler to have fired up when it was switched to Central Heating, of are there safety switches in it to make sure that it only...
