    S.Manchester/Stockport Boiler Repair - Rare(ish) Boiler

That would explain why everyone appears to have manufactured this boiler! I think you're right with Hepworth, as that seems to be the most frequently used on the internet and part centres. Thanks for digging that info out for me 8)

    S.Manchester/Stockport Boiler Repair - Rare(ish) Boiler

Where would I find the Data Plate? Can I get the council number from the user manual? Ikon/Icon, from what I have read, appear to be manufactured by somewhat confusing sources. I hear they are made by Hepworth, but they often carry the Protherm tag when searching for parts.

    S.Manchester/Stockport Boiler Repair - Rare(ish) Boiler

Hi, I'm in need of a boiler repair. Needs PRV replacing/cleaning and the diverter valve servicing. Trouble I'm having is the boiler is an Icon 23T and boiler engineers I have spoken to have either been scared off because they have never heared of the boiler and are reluctant to work on it...

Heating radiators when calling for hot water?

Bugger. Are these things essentially a little valve with a plunger type actuation? If they are, it could be that it has got a bit gunked up and needs a bit of a clean, hence the slow operation..? At least it's 'reasonably' accessible on this boiler...

Heating radiators when calling for hot water?

Hi everyone. My combi-boiler (Icon 23T) has recently developed a bit of a problem. When I turn on a hot tap, it seems to take about 5-6 seconds for me to hear the microswitch 'click' and fire up the boiler. This isn't too much of an issue, but whilst the hot water is running, it also very...

    Pressure Vessel Location and Testing

Apparently, you have to accept me as a friend in order for me to send a PM to you. I've sent a friend request

That would be great. I think I can send you a PM with my address. I'll give it a go...

    Pressure Vessel Location and Testing

There is plenty of room above the boiler. I had the torch out last night trying to find the PV valve, as I had heard some boilers provided access from the top. There is no sign of anything there, unless I have to take the silver cover off, but then I'm exposing the combustion chamber..?

    Pressure Vessel Location and Testing

Hmmm. The boiler is mounted hard up against the wall, so it sounds like I'll not be able to get to it. Certainly not from the back anyhow :(

Yeah will do. I have a bottle of X100 ready for when it's sorted.

    Pressure Vessel Location and Testing

Ah, I see. But, the system pressure is normal. When in use, the PRV pipe drips at a reasonable rate to the outside. In the morning, the pressure reads about 0.6bar. I top it back up to 1bar and the cycle starts all over again. I have just assumed this is either a PRV or PV failure. I...

    Pressure Vessel Location and Testing

I've had a look in the FAQs for testing the PV, but it requires you to actually find the PV and gain access to the valve! If the filling loop was switched on, would that not just overpressurise the system? Cheers.

    Pressure Vessel Location and Testing

Hello all. I'm having problems with my Icon 23T boiler (I know, I know) which of course is nicely timed for the cold weather. Basically, the boiler is losing pressure quite quickly as it is passing through the pressure release valve. I want to determine whether the problem lies with the...

    Maximum Boiler Pressure

Ok cheers. It just had me worried as it was in the red zone on the gauge. Thanks for your help

    Maximum Boiler Pressure

I normally have my boiler pressure set to just slightly over 1 bar when stone cold. However, today, the boiler had been running for some time and I noticed the pressure had risen to almost 2.5 bar. Obviously, I would expect it to rise when it gets hot, but does this seem normal, or is...

    Problem Radiator

Thank-you for the advice. I will try opening the lockshield a little more. If that doesn't work I want to fit some TRVs in the near future, so I'll try giving the rad a flush when I do that.

    Problem Radiator

Hi all, I have a troublesome radiator in my spare room. I normally have the valve turned right down (but cracked open a quarter-turn to allow minimal flow) since I rarely use the room. I decided to turn it up to full as we had visitors staying, but unfortunately it would only get warm at the...

    Combi Boiler Hot Water Intermittent

I didn't realise the pump comes on when there is a hot water demand? I'll have a check tonight. Cheers.

    Combi Boiler Hot Water Intermittent

Thanks for the reply. I've checked the operation of the plunger when it's faulting, and it comes out as far as completely depressing the switch to the point where the face of the plunger is flush with the body of the microswitch - i.e as far as it could go without pushing the switch out of...

    Combi Boiler Hot Water Intermittent

Ok, bit of an update. I've noticed now that the fault only develops when the hot water hasn't been used for a while (i.e not working when I return home from work.) To get it to work, I have to turn tap on and off until the fan kicks in, then I know it's going to fire up. After that, it's all...
