    Spraying timbers in loft.

It's not for woodworm, the coucil gave a partial grant for the work to be completed and insisted the roof be sprayed because there had been so many leaks over the last year or so. It seems the roofers didn't take the tiles as close to the skylight as they should have. It's sorted now. Cheers

    Spraying timbers in loft.

I live in a tenement flat and have just recently had a new tile roof completed. The scaffolding is still up as they are also fixing a chimney, about 2 days ago was the first decent rain we've had since the roof was finished and sure enough there was a leak near the skylight. I have just heard...

    Poor qqality grout job

They are going to do it. They have suggested that the problem isn't with the tiles but with the board. ie the tiles are well fixed to the board but the board is moving slighty. They have offered to remove all the grout and replace it with white scilicone. Is this normal practice? I was...

    Poor qqality grout job

They used plywood, not hardboard. I will check the packet tonight (It was ready to use stuff) to see how long it is recommended to wait before grouting. Is grout difficult to remove?

    Securing toilet

Thanks There are two screws at the back of the pan but none at the front. I assume they have used the screws but have covered heads with silicone. There are holes in the cistern, they just haven't been used. The wall it should be attached to was put up by then, frame and plasterboard. I...

    Securing toilet

I have had a number of problems with the bathroom fitters who have just finished my bathroom. The major one is the installation of the toilet. They have put some sort of sealent under the bowl and told us not to sit on it for a day which is fair enough but a day later there is loads of...

    Poor qqality grout job

Yes, they did that. I am going to leave the tiles for a while to see if they dry (I have put weights down on the worst ones) If the movement doesn't stop is there a type of grout I can use that won't crack? (that's slightly more flexible?) or if I regrout will that hold the tiles in place? Any...

    Poor qqality grout job

The bathroom fitters I was using have just left, they are coming back tonight to collect their tools. The last thing they did was grout the floor. This looks terrible and already has cracks up and down the length of the bathroom. I notice when I step on a tile there is some movement, is this...

    Grout problem?

I am in the process of having a new bathroom installed. I decided to get this done professionally as I don't have any tiling experience. They have put all the tiles up and have now started grouting, when I looked last night the grout seemed really lumpy and rough looking. They haven't...

I need to put some shelves on the boards. Could I do that if I used gripfill?

    Bad ceiling

I'm doing up my spare room and have stripped all wallpaper. The ceiling was covered in a think polystyrene type paper and painted orange. Underneath the ceiling seems to be in bad condition. There are a couple of areas with nasty looking spores on them and a couple of nice big cracks. Any...

    Fixing boards to wall

I recently bought 5 large panels to fix to the wall of my spare room behing my desk. I bought them from Ikea where they were on display in the same position but the panels are actually end panels for one of their kitchens so don't come with the fixings. I asked if I could buy the fixings...

    Damp

I live in a flat, I've just removed the old plaster walls in the living room as I'm about to get the room skimmed and the walls were a bit crumbly. I can now see why, the wood holding them in place was rotten and soaking wet, the inside of the exterior walls is also wet (sandstone) before I...

    Skimming Walls

The flat's about 100 years old. I've replaced quite a few on the old plaster walls (with plasterboard) and at least two of the ceilings need skimmed too. Might be a good excuse to get away for a few days if there's any money left. 8)

    Skimming Walls

I'm about to get all the walls skimmed in my flat (Living room, kitchen, hall, bathroom + 2 bedrooms) I've decided it's best to get a pro in to do this for me. Can anyone tell me what sort of disruption this involves. Will I need to move out for a couple of days / weeks? Cheers

    Lamps

I was just speaking to someone who has wired their living room so that all the lamps can be switched on from a switch on the wall and also turned on/off independently. Anyone know the best way to achieve this? Thanks
