    Trickle fan needed

Screwfix item number 59744. 1p under your upper budget! I've got two and they're great. You can get them on eBay cheaper too, but obviously no warranty.

Rainfall shower - connect chrome pipe to taps outlet

They're suggesting a 3/4" female iron. Although the one pictured is 22mm at the compression end and you'd want 15mm. All depends on what the thread is on the mixer once you've removed the cradle. That suggestion will not work if the thread is not 3/4". The pipe will slide into one end of...

    Confused by this box

It's a hose that's supposed to detect a leak/burst and shut itself off to prevent further damage. http://www.whitegoodshelp.co.uk/aqua-stop-hoses/

    Subfloor preparation

I'm about to take on the tiling of the floor in my bathroom and I'd like to check I'm heading the right way please? Any pointers welcome. The floor has been taken up and the joists are exposed at the moment, so my plan is to fit: - 18mm WBP ply, fixed at 300 centres with 45mm Floortite screws...

    Mains water pipe replacement

The MDPE would switch to 28mm copper inside with a combination of stopcock or coupler and copper connection kit. Do you need 32mm? How big is the house? How many bathrooms and how much potential concurrent usage?

Electric Shower + Combi Fed Mixer Shower Questions

At peak times (around 7am and 6pm) over a few days, turn your combi-powered shower on and set it to cold with the shower head removed. Go downstairs and turn the electric shower on, also set to cold with the shower head removed (to simulate worst-case scenario of highest possible flow at both...

    Unfinished edges to basin: normal?

It's definitely the correct basin/vanity pair, yes. Shame that it's not the quality they portray it to be. The toilet seat we've received has a split in it too. The taps appear to be good though - it seems they're re-branded Bristans.

    Unfinished edges to basin: normal?

I'm going to ask what is potentially quite a silly question, so please excuse me if so: I've just taken delivery of a new basin and there are two points on the underside where the glaze appears to have been milled/ground off. Is this normal, done to level them up after they're fired? My only...

    Toilet in garden cabin

Did you put a stiff plastic liner into the end of the MDPE tube before you put it into the fitting?

    Ball valve stuck.

It's the header tank feeding the cylinder with cold water at the bottom which pushes the hot out of the top. No water in = no water out. What's in the tank stays there, so the situation you describe will not happen.

    Rookie mortar colour question

Haha! Well that was pretty obvious, on reflection. Thanks! I take it a proper builder's merchant will stock it, as Wickes don't?

    Rookie mortar colour question

Morning, I'm hoping someone can help out with this basic question? I need to repoint a small area of brickwork on my Victorian house. No matter what I've tried, all the mortar mixes I've made up are too grey. I've been using regular grey cement and builder's sand from Wickes. The colour I'm...

How best to deal with F&R passing between floors of different height?

Dan > Thanks! I've read a couple of threads where you say you hate doing bathrooms, so I'm slightly concerned I'll regret this decision... Dave > Potentially, but the house has been treated. More likely to be debris from the old plaster I scraped off the walls. The floorboards are coming up and...

How best to deal with F&R passing between floors of different height?

Thanks Dan. Is chasing the bricks likely to cause any issues with plaster cracking? And should I put some sort of mechanical protection in place? Lastly, is it worth 'upsizing' the pipes to 22mm at this point, to counteract the additional restriction caused by the introduction of a 15mm double...

How best to deal with F&R passing between floors of different height?

Hopefully you can offer your opinions on how best to deal with this please? I'm ripping out an old bathroom to install a fresh one. I've taken out the old bath and discovered that the heating flow and return currently run above floor level and used to be hidden by the bath panel. I'm...

    Position of water mains pipe?

Yes, because every metre of pipework and bend or change of direction adds extra resistance and therefore pressure drop, but not enough to worry about in the context of your question.

Mdpe 25mm pipe delivered with scuffs. Should I return?

Yes. Those will have no effect on the pipe's integrity whatsoever. The replacement they send will probably be worse. When you fit the pipe you'll do worse (rubs on stones, gravel, random uncontrollable uncoiling resulting in it scraping against bricks, pavement, etc). Don't worry.
