    Novice Texecom Veritas Excel Install

Got to the bottom of the problems. It was the least expected result! It turns out it is a break in the cable. Three separate occasions and all the same (red) strand. I'm glad in a way, that it proves I could actual wire the thing up properly and it probably would have worked first time if it...

    Dry valleys - worth it?

We've got various jobs to be done on our roof. One of which was to renew the valleys as the existing mortar is crumbling. The roofer we planned to use wants to wait until the risk of frost has passed which is fair enough. We've already got dry verges and he will be doing a dry ridge. He...

    Novice Texecom Veritas Excel Install

Ok thanks. I understand 1. For 2 I will recheck all the wiring both ends. But 3, are you talking about making sure all the jumpers are in the right place?

    Novice Texecom Veritas Excel Install

I tried last night and when I put a link in all the problem zones of the panel, it does solve the problem. The zones obviously don't respond on the walk test, but it appears the system is functioning normally otherwise. I guess this does suggest a short somewhere? I will probably re-do both...

Thanks for the replies. The PIR's are the Texecom premier elite compact. It is wired standard with tamper. I didn't go with EOL, as I couldn't really understand what it was and what the benefit was over standard wiring! I can't see any shorts anywhere, but maybe I should check again.

    Novice Texecom Veritas Excel Install

I've just installed a Texecom Veritas Excel, 8 zones (zone 1 uses magnetic door contacts for front and back door, rest are PIR's), 2 remote keypads, external bell box and one dummy box. It is my first ever attempt, but we need to keep costs down so I decided to give it a try as I am competent...

Can a dodgy bulb cause a lighting circuit to fail?

To Answer the earlier question, it isn't a repo. It was a late 80's self build by an old couple that looks like it hasn't been touched since. Well built mind. 48 hours later and no further problems yet!

Can a dodgy bulb cause a lighting circuit to fail?

thanks all. it didn't trip anything. The only thing that has been touched on that circuit is we had a sparky put a feed in for an extractor fan, which I have since wired up from the isolation switch. But the fan isn't live and still isolated with the switch. but the lights have worked since...

Can a dodgy bulb cause a lighting circuit to fail?

Currently refurbing a bungalow. One of the lighting circuits has stopped working. None of the lights work, but the RCD doesn't trip. I've checked all the connections in the ceiling roses and light switches. All looks ok. I've also checked all the junction boxes that I know of in the loft...

Multi-wall poly carb conservatory roof with condensation

Yeah I thought about opening the sheet some how, but I'm a little scared about risking it. I wondered about taken the breather tape off the bottom on a nice dry day and trying to warm the top surface of the sheet with a hair dryer in the hope it will evaporate away. Then re-apply the breather...

Multi-wall poly carb conservatory roof with condensation

Thanks. I feared it might have to be something like that. Its a big job to change the foil for breather tape as the top is right under the soffits, the whole panel will have to come out which will disturb the silicone on the inside of the conservatory. I think I may have to just put up with it!

Multi-wall poly carb conservatory roof with condensation

We've got condensation in 3 of the 4 roof panels in our roof. Interestingly the 3 with the condensation in are installed correctly with the breather tape at the bottom, the one that is free of condensation has the breather tape at the top. I obviously want rid of the condensation, but don't...

    Conservatory / window insulation

If the frames are the weak link is it worth spending all the cash on the upgraded glazed units?

    Conservatory / window insulation

Thanks for the replies. I have done the insulation on the inside of the roof, but I'm going to take it down as it makes our dining room too dark. That was why I was going to replace with the thickest clear Polycarb option (35mm). Beefpotnoodle, What's the U value of the triple glazing?

    Conservatory / window insulation

We are looking at improving the insulation of our conservatory. I'm going to replace the roof, but I want improve one of the side 'walls'. It is currently brick to knee height and then fully double glazed. As it faces our neighbours it is also frosted glass and we have blinds fully down...

    Decking & removal of stain

When we built our decking some years ago I rather stupidly used water based stain. Basically with the last few harsh winters it is crap and needs re-doing every year. I'd like to get some oil/solvent based stain/oil on there, but it looks like I need to remove all the old covering before I can...
