Any way to move a 1 tonne bag of sand

as above, had 6 x 1 tonne bags of sand delivered 2 weeks ago, I’ve used 5 but have 1 left to be used in a few weeks time. I could do with moving it about 5m further down the driveway Without a jcb or 10 men, are there any tricks of the trade to shift it? Am guessing not, but thought I’d ask anyway

Will grout dry out and self support?

weve laid a porcelain patio with a 35mm overhang on the edge of the steps, to fit LED strip lights under. We are grouting the patio this week, 5mm with EasyPrime grout. If we taped the ends of the joints, and the underneath 35mm, then remove the tape once the grout has set, should it stay in...

Laying artificial grass over an old patio

Thanks Conny, I had wondered how ‘bouncy’ it would be straight onto the patio. IF (I’ll get plenty of time to check over the next few days) it does pool and puddle after a downpour could I drill drainage holes through the pavers where it pools, and through it’s mortar bed and maybe fill them...

Laying artificial grass over an old patio

we’d like to lay artificial grass over an old patio we have, approx 8m x 6m of pavers on what looks like a solid mortar bed. It hasn’t shifted or sunk in the 20+ years it’s been down (we inherited it). Is there any way we can lay artificial grass over the patio, without needing to dig it up and...

    Laying a mains water supply

We live in a 1930's semi with a shared mains supply with 3 other houses, that comes into our property from the back garden. We think the shared pipe runs between both sets of semi's, and branches off into each of the 4 houses. We'd like to get our own mains supply fitted, from the mains pipe...

Detecting a water leak on a shared supply - HELP

Thanks Andy, yes thats our plan as soon as this damn leak is sorted. Been a ball ache already and its only been 4 or 5 days. We've got a block paved driveway so guessing we'd need a new supply pipe moling under the driveway and the water board to make the connection?

Detecting a water leak on a shared supply - HELP

Hi PeteE I looked on the Affinity water website and a share supply is responsibility of all 4 properties as we all use it. Not sure how it would work if the leak was caused by one particular household damaging the pipe for example. But at present, we are all at a bl00dy stalemate. Council...

    Painting garden bench

What kind of wood is it, do you know? We bought a bench from Amazon and it was eucalyptus wood, so was advised to use tung oil or linseed oil to treat it. We havent yet (not had time) but are thinking of painting it black instead, unsure of how paint will look on it though

Detecting a water leak on a shared supply - HELP

no, only 1 stopcock on the public footpath that the water board measured at 4 bar pressure. From there, it branches off to 4 pipes, 1 into each property. Ive got a stopcock under the sink, but neighbour hasnt. I read elsewhere that the water board may be responsible for all pipes up to the...

Detecting a water leak on a shared supply - HELP

Sorry Terry, i should of said, yes all 4 houses (mine plus the 3 neighbours) are all experiencing low water pressure. The Afinity Water guy measured our outside tap and got 1.5 bar pressure, and only 4L per minute flow. As the main stopcock, where his responsibility ends), he measured over 4...

    Low water pressure indoors

As above, all of our taps and shower the water only trickles out, I've checked the combi boiler and the pressure gauge shows 1 bar, I went to top it up manually but even with the top up loop opened, it didn't increase pressure. Kitchen sink tap and outside cold tap are both just a trickle too...

    Led strip lights for steps

Cheers all, that was my concern with the flat ribbon type strips, water ingress or how to protect them for the elements. Guessing that’s why the Philips one are so expensive, they’re almost like a flexible mini trunking

Extending fibre broadband into the garden

we’ve just had Gigaclear fibre fitted to our small village and it’s great. it came with 2 x Linksys Velop mesh units and we have the main one where the internet comes into the lounge and the other along the landing to boost signal in the back bedrooms. Ideally we’d like to extend it to both...

    Decking options

We are decking a small corner of the garden, 3.6m x 3.2m in size. 4x2" frame sat on old paving slabs. Will probably fit decking lights to the face of the decking (only 2 sides will be visable) We were looking at composite, but it does seem a lot of money (after you add fixings etc) for an...

    Led strip lights for steps

Thanks Jaimie, do you think they’d be bright enough for outside in the evening? I fitted similar to the back of our led tv on the lounge wall, usb powered but very similar. Wasn’t sure if the flat strip type (almost ribbon type) would be bright enough for patio steps at night?

    Plate compactor running rough

Thanks John - currently tipping it down here down South so as soon as it stops I’ll give it a try. Bought a new spark plug so will replace it while I’m out there tomorrow (hopefully - as I’ve still got 6 tonnes of type 1 to shift and compact) Thanks again
