    New sink doesn't fit trap?!

Thanks for the replies, having taken the parts out, had a much better look I independently came to a similar solution to Madrab, I chamfered the inside of the waste so that when I tightened the joint the bottle trap got pushed into position and seal made!

    Toughened glass porch

Hi All, I was looking at installing a porch at my property. Ideally was looking at getting a ‘frameless’ look using 10mm toughened glass. The porch itself is structurally ‘there’ so a case of enclosing it (please see the image below) I’ve looked at getting a couple of quotes for getting this...

Hotpoint fridge not cooling at all?

Thanks for the tip, did as advised, after just over 24hrs not a drop of water to be seen anywhere. Device sounded more like it was on ( i.e more like a compressor noise,) after I turned it back in (did nothing for the first 5mins), however it just seemed to be blowing room temperature around...

Hotpoint fridge not cooling at all?

Hi All, thanks in advance for you advice. I have a Hotpoint FFP187B in the garage, went into today and there was a funny smell, you guessed it,no cooling and everything defrosted! I 'think' it may be a thermistat issue. The lights appear to be working normally (and the small fan in the freezer...

Reducing Cold Bridging with steel Lintel?

Thanks for the idea, unfortunately the doors are outward opening and the frame (as seen from the inside) is actually the door jamb. Is it OK to fit to a door?

Reducing Cold Bridging with steel Lintel?

Looking to resolve or reduce the cold bridging and resultant condensation around a window. We've purchased a house and in the kitchen/dinner there are some French doors. They have been installed in the past few years (in a 25yr old house), and appear to have placed the new door a couple of...

    Loft room above detached garage?

OK, so it would appear that I may have been wasting your time, apologies for doing so! I just spoke to the local building regs office (South Northamptonshire), who advised me that as long as the garage is detached, under 30sqM, and contains no sleeping accomodation, then it falls outside the...

    Loft room above detached garage?

Thanks for the advice, guessing the major remaining issue would be the 30mins fire regs. My understanding is that I would need to fit a fire door to the office and to the entrance to the detached garage (and check the window is fit to use). Fire alarms and I'm guessing I would need to address...

    Loft room above detached garage?

Hi there, Just moved into a new house, it's in a conservation area (which affects what I can do) but it has a detached double garage which I am keen to convert the loft area into an office.t shining perhaps as a 'storage room's rather than a room. It's double skinned and there is a nice steel...

Damp Proof Failed in less than 1 Month? advice please

Hi, I've a basement in a Victorian Building, and have had some damp issues in the past, and have recently had the damp proof course repaired under the 30 year warranty, the work was done literally last month (September), and I've just gone to look at the work, an entire wall looks to have...

Replacing a bulb socket in lamp.

Hi, I've got a lamp in my lounge with 5 small diameter Bayonet fittings, other than the difficulty of finding the correct bulbs for it, it would seem that several of the sockets have warped slightly, as a result, they don't hold the bulbs in (the plastic holding the pins has moved outwards)...

Boiler Worth Replacing, or Leave it until it dies

Hi all, I've got an old Ravenheat 820/20 24KW boiler (74.5% energy efficiency E). 3 bed victorian flat (high ceilings), two bathrooms with showers. It is still working, but it leaks (from within), leave a small tuperware container under it (about 2/300ml month over the winter, fine over...

    Leaking Boiler

Hi All, I have an old Ravenheat 820, however it has been leaking (seemingly when cold), leave water ont he surface below it, but only need to top up every couple of weeks/month. Pressure is about 1 bar cold, but was running at 2.5 hot, however, after leaking more than normal over night, hot...
