    Breeze block calculation

I'm about to remove an external wall which is constructed of studded plasterboard interior wall which is clad in what I can only describe as Cedarwood planking to the external. As you can imagine it's not very energy efficient in terms of heat loss and so the intention is to replace with a wall...

    Shower drain

The outlet from the basin is 32 mm and go's into a 40mm waste pipe via a universal compreesion fitting so no woories there. I think it looks like it's going to be more cost effective to run another waste pipe from the shower trap and leave the basin as it is. Thanks for the suggestion.

    Shower drain

I have a bottle-trap shower drain that I would, ideally like to connect to a bathroom sink drain pipe in order to minimise pipework. The problem is that whilst the shower is only 600mm away from the pipework it sits approx 120mm lower. Any suggestions or am I going have to run another length of...

    Door & Door casing

Recently had a door and case fitted. Tiler removed door to avoid any possible damage and since re-hanging door have found it won't close. Looks to be about 2 - 3mm out. Now, question is I've tried to ease the door case by tightening up the exisiting screws without any joy, have taken some of the...

    Tiling Travertine

An update. Tanked p/board with Mapei tanking kit. Found a local specialist tiler (natural stone) and got a superb job at at a very reasonable price. The prep work with the guidance of those who responded constructively to this post helped a hell of a lot and if there's anyone looking for for a...

    Sealing Travertine

I've noted that travertine requires the finished face sealing and likewise with the edges. Is there mileage in sealing the back surface as well with any sealant left over from the primary sealing of the finished surface?

    Tiling Travertine

Thx Tictic. We're sorted with what's needed now. Remaining question seems to be tiling over shower upstands. There seems to be an opinion that tiling should be laid onto and not over for primary reason that if tray needs to be removed then no tiles damaged

    Tiling Travertine

Just had another tiler recommending that he'd use a Mapei tanking kit to prepare and seal existing plasterboard. Viable or not?

    Tiling Travertine

Thanks to all posters so far on this. We've taken on board the grouting issue and now insisting on this. Any suggestions on recommended water resistant/proof tile backe boards together with what the advantages/disadvantages are over 6mm V 12mm?

    Tiling Travertine

Thanks Tictic. We've been advised that the 12mm moisture board and then a 6mm tile waterproof back boards fixed to this should be fine for travertine. We have sealant for tiles and will be sealing prior to installation. Conflicting tales on grouting. We've seen previous installations...

    Tiling Travertine

I omitted to say that I'm not tiling it myself and just wwant be sure that the tiler we get to do the job knows what they're doing, have the right kit and experience. So far we've had 2 Tilers in both saying they can do it "no problem" but not convinced when both said they'd be cutting using...

    Noisy Cistern

I've just replaced the syphon in a cistern as the diaphragm in the previous one was split and I assumed the trombone pipe vibrating-like noise that it made each flush was as a result of this. Having installed the replacement the noise problem appeared be sorted, however, after 4 days since...
