    Scarification

Bits of my lawn are yellowing even though I water it regularly so I raked some up as you can see here. Is this natural in the heat or should I be doing some scarification for the first time? If so, can anyone recommend a tool to do that? Thanks Matt

    Cart Wheel Advice

Why did you think part of my wheel had been replaced already? Interested that you can spot something I cant!

    Cart Wheel Advice

My sentiments entirely. I think it's genuine too. There's a place called wheelwrights in Suffolk which specialises in gypsy carriage wheel repair etc. I just a repairer like that then I guess in the Herts/Essex borders which is easier said than done. I agree, I don't think it will be a cheap job.

    Cart Wheel Advice

Hi, The cartwheel on our old wall has started to see better days. It was there when we moved in 12 years ago, not sure if it's a geniune one or replica. It's starting to fall apart badly, pass that rustic stage. I cant decide if I just need a good chippie to carve out and replace the rot...

    Gas contractors paint removal

That is a very valid point footprints :-) ! No the pavement is the usual council owned one I presume. Just looks butt ugly out there red, yellow and green with GAS written near it in big letters. I was wondering if cementone or something would speed up it's demise.

    Gas contractors paint removal

Hi, Gas engineers, whilst replacing, a feed into my house have spray painted markings all over the pavement outside my house. Two months on they aren't showing any sign of disappearing as I thought the rain would wash them away. Do I just need more rain or is there something I can scrub into...

    Planter advice

Hi, Can someone help me with some ideas? I want something in here overflowing at the bottom and some lovely roses coming up the trellis. Something that I can plant shortly and will last. Any ideas? Also, I'm worried about the security of the thing. Do people put heavy bricks or similar in...

    Bath taps measurement easy question

Arh I see. Whats the point of using the 226 measurement then if the 180 is standard? Thats confusing. So basically, most of what I see should be ok.

    Bath taps measurement easy question

Hi, I need a need bath tap mixer. Looking on screwfix website most of the widths are 226 or similiar. I measured the distance from the middle of each tap to the other and it's only 180. Should I be looking for 180mm tap mixers only? Thanks in advance Matthew

    Trickle vents (Y/N)?

We cant have insulation put in the outside walls, its just solid brick. Not sure why they made houses like this in the old days, freezing in winter butyes that would be a lovely way forward I agree. I'm not bothered about the ratedness of the windows, is that just a resale problem? Seems trickle...

    Trickle vents (Y/N)?

Hi, We're double glazing our entire house and wondering whether we need tricke vents in all the windows. We hadn't heard of these before. Our builder, who is building an extension for us, is putting in windows with them (you have to now?) in the extension but we need to decide on the rest of...

    Returfing

Hi, I think my garden was just a dumping ground for rubble. See attached. Wherever I dig my fork there's half bricks, bottles etc. I would like to returf properly with top soil. Will contractors dig down and fish out all this rubble I.E. is it part of the cost? I'd like it dug out as the lawn...

    Is my tree dead?

Hi, Looking for some gardening advice. Is my fir tree dead? It has gone brown before each year at about this time but this year it's worse. I wonder if its the tree behind sucking the moisture out of the ground or is it natural for these trees to go brown in April? Thanks in advance Matt

    Removing Sleepers advice

Thanks for your comment, i was kind of thinking the same. So that concrete surround between the sleeper and base is acting as a barrier? I guess else the damp would seep into the sleeper quicker. I think i have opened a can of worms here :?

    Removing Sleepers advice

Hi, I've posted previously about this so a year later I am getting round to this. I'm removing these sleepers as rotten (thought I could lift them out er'hem). The concrete surround is falling to bits also. I'm frightened I'm doing more destruction than construction as there's sand and...
