    No hot water

Like I wrote, "The Immersion/boost still works and I hear the hissing sound." I tried it and was surprised how well it works, less than an hour from stone cold and enough for long shower and washing up. Are you saying the Boost uses the top one?

    No hot water

I see, not something I am comfortable with. I have 2 questions if you don't mind. 1) On the picture of the cylinder, you can see there are 2 black objects, are they both called Immersion heating elements? 2) When I use the Boost, does it use one of those 2 immersion heating elements?

    No hot water

I have lived in this home for 5 years and have economy 7. I use the timer and set the water heater to come on at 3am and to go off and 8am. I think the 5 hours is pre set. The power light on the socket is still illuminated, the timer light still illuminates from 3am to 8am but the water is not...

The importance of a FENSA certificate

Yes I will keep it complaint, it is a detached property so will not project more than 4m. The Conservatory has French doors to enter and has safety glass all round. The one double electric socket will be installed by a qualified electrician and I will get the relevant paperwork for that.

The importance of a FENSA certificate

It did not put me off buying the property as overall it was better than the others I had viewed. I just wondered how others would feel about it. Is getting building control to sign it off just a matter of contacting the relevant department of the council and paying someone to come out and look...

The importance of a FENSA certificate

When I moved to this property 4 years ago the solicitor that dealt with the purchase asked the sellers daughter for all the FENSA certificates for the UPVC windows and doors that had been installed over the years. As they were fitted at different times and by different companies she could not...

    Dulux water based exterior paint

I am going to paint a wooden beach hut and was going to sand it down to provide a key and then apply an oil based undercoat and then an oil based gloss coat. In the paint shop I saw there was some Dulux water based exterior paint, on the instructions it said an undercoat is not necessary. In...

    Carport height

I drive a Ford Focus which is 1430mm high plus the Ford roof bars and I usually have a pair of step ladders on the roof for work. The car port will be the same height at the garage door opening. The roof fall will be 100mm over the 3.5 meter projection which should be sufficient to take the...

    Carport height

Is there a minimum height requirement for a Carport? I would like to attach a carport to the side of my bungalow, covering some of my driveway. I am restricted to how high I can fit the wall plate because of the boxes on the barge boards.

Changing a UPVC double glazed unit.

Ok thanks, I wonder if one of those flexible blades that you can snap off when they get blunt would be better than a rigid Stanley blade?

Changing a UPVC double glazed unit.

It is externally beaded so I would need to cut the tape from the inside, I was concerned that I might damage the frame when using a Stanley knife between the glass and frame but may have to give it a go.

Changing a UPVC double glazed unit.

I would like to measure my current sealed unit so that I can order a replacement one. I have taken the 4 beading trims off but the sealed unit is stuck to the inside of the frame with the original black sticky tape. So I can only measure the width and height of the sealed unit, not the depth...

Removing concrete from old fence post.

I have replaced 5 1/2 fence panels and taken out the old wooden fence posts and installed concrete gravel boards and concrete fence posts. I was going to leave the end wooden post as I thought it was ok but it is rotten too. The old concrete is about 6 inches under ground and I can only get to 3...

    Planning permission needed for Conservatory

Thanks for the reply. At the moment the rear bedroom has a window to the outside, I was going to install the Conservatory and then take the window out, cut the brickwork down to the floor and them fit a U.P.V.C french doors or a sliding patio door. I was going to buy a second hand Conservatory.

    Planning permission needed for Conservatory

I have a 2 bed detached bungalow and would like to install a 4M x 3M dwarf wall, U.P.V.C Conservatory to the rear bedroom. From Googling and doing some reading it appears that I will not need to get planning permission for this because it is conidered a permitted development and is withing the...
