    Efficiency of old boilers

As this thread already seems suitably de-railed, AND as the issue of acidic condensate has come up, can I drop in a quick question? Our neighbour recently had their boiler changed for a new 'condenser' boiler. However the existing vent point is straight out through the external wall at just...

    Pond Disaster

I'm afriad if you DO want a pond, the only choice in this situation is to go for a solid concrete based pond, and you can then cover that with the liner, and embed the edges of the liner into a surrounding wall or similar :(

    Battery Rebuild

So have you lost the red 'thing' that was on your original battery? It is probably a thermistor that lets the battery charging circuit know if the battery pack is overheating, although without knowing the characteristics of the original one I think you might be hard pushed to get a...

    Efficiency of old boilers

Yeah, unfortunately the other 35% serves to warm up your garden, (and maybe you kitchen, or whatever room the boiler is in!)

    Irwin Hilman GLM Pipe Bender

I think that will be the best - thanks :) I finally managed to get a contact email address for Irwin, and asked what the markings indicated and how to use them. Their official response... No idea of what sort of guidance, or how to use them, so I can only assume that the...

    Irwin Hilman GLM Pipe Bender

They should be 'proper' GLM's, were not an ebay jobbie. Got them here: nextday.diy.com - Irwin Hilman GLM Pipe Bender

    Irwin Hilman GLM Pipe Bender

Does the lack of response mean that either no-one else has the GLM pipebender, or at least no-one knows how to use the degree markers on the former :(

    Irwin Hilman GLM Pipe Bender

Hi I recently bought an Irwin Hilman GLM pipe bender, but the angle markings on the former don't make a huge amount of sense to me. If anyone has one can you please advise me as to how to use the angle markings to pull accurate angles? I wasn't sure where it would get most visibility so...

    Pipe Benders

Well I went for the Hilmor in the end, and I've used it a little but am having some problems :( If anyone can shed some light on it please feel free to comment here: http://www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=262099&highlight= Thanks :)

    Irwin Hilman GLM Pipe Bender

@KirkGas: Thanks, I did try but it says you need to accept my 'Friendship request' before I can send you a PM ? This is the tutorial that I had been looking at so far: http://www.diyfaq.org.uk/plumbing/Pipe%20Bending%20(BillP).pdf However the markings on the former (given at the end of...

    Irwin Hilman GLM Pipe Bender

Ok, so I bought myself an Irwin Hilman GLM Pipe Bender, but I am confused :( Firstly, the guide seems really quite hard to get between the pipe and the roller with the bender open. Then when I do eventually manage to get it in place, when I use the bender the pipe bends nicely with no...

90 deg pipe bend, but what are the former markings showing?

    La-Co Cool Gel

    Removing Hollow Wall Anchor

Ok, so I have a tiled 'hollow' wall. Allowing for the thickness of the tile + adhesive + plasterboard thickness I used a hollow wall anchor, (the type that you either use a fixing tool, or tighten a screw to splay the metal out inside the wall). However the anchor, whilst seemingly well anchored...

    La-Co Cool Gel

Ok cheers. I have done plenty of soldering and have no intention of waving the torch around like a mad-man, I was just concerned about the heat coming up from where I was working perhaps affecting the bath. Will just go with the heatmat then :)

    La-Co Cool Gel

Has anyone used this stuff and is it any good? http://www.screwfix.com/search.do;jsessionid=0SIKJQVNY4ZUACSTHZOSFFQ?_dyncharset=UTF-8&fh_search=cold+gel I need to do some pipe jointing approximate 6" underneath a modern plastic/fiberglass bath. I will have a flame mat between the work area...

    Boiler Cleaning

Thanks Andy, that does sound a lot easy / preferrable than having to fill it, circulate, drain, flush & refill again :P I'll grab myself a bottle of X200 to dump in this time and see if it improves things :)

    Boiler Cleaning

Late part of last year I had been doing some work on my CH system (vented, pumped primary), replacing damaged drain taps, replacing the pump etc. As I had to drain down to do it I ran with X400 for about 4 weeks when I filled it back up, and when I drained THAT out the water was very brown, so...

Central Heating / Hot Water Controller Replacement

Ok, I can't actually do that with the existing controller, but presumably I could remove the CH connections from the controller I have at the moment so that it is only controlling hot water, then use this thing to control the central heating side of things.
