New floor and now getting damp issues!

I mispoke - the walls are actually stone. (the ground floor walls are stone but upstairs are cob). Im not sure if that makes matter easier/better. The walls were plastered with lime plaster - so atleast theyre breathable. These walls were not damp until this floor was dug out and laid. So Im...

New floor and now getting damp issues!

Is tanking the walls an expensive job? Should the builder have factored this in when digging out the floor?

New floor and now getting damp issues!

The new floor had a DPC, but the walls havnt. Is the damp being forced away from the floor with DPC to the walls!? Whats the solution?

New floor and now getting damp issues!

Its been about 5 months since the put in the new floor; and 4 months since they plastered the walls. Given all the hot weather it should have all dried by now(?)

New floor and now getting damp issues!

Hi, Im doing a complete renovation. The builders dug out the floor and put in concrete/insulation/screed. Since then Ive painted the walls. The paint is blotchy and I went round with a moisture-reader and the bottom 24 inches of all walls (including interior dividing walls) are damp! The upper...

Best finish for a wood floor in a bathroom

Hmm, Im hoping for no major spills! :) Would varnish or some sealant not protect against major spills? Maybe I should just put down vinyl. :/

Best finish for a wood floor in a bathroom

Hi all, Im putting in a whole new bathroom. Ive removed some nasty vinyl tiles from the floor to reveal the original floorboards. I was going to use some wood-effect vinyl, but then I thought - whats the point of covering over real wooden floorboards with fake wood!? So my question is: how do...

    Whats the average water pressure?

Thanks. Ive seen on their website that they have to provide at least .7 bar, but usually its 1 bar+. Is there a tool that my builder needs to check the water pressure?

    Whats the average water pressure?

Hi all, Ive bought a new house and not even moved in yet. The water company fixed a meter and also a PRV. Im looking to buy a shower and some of product manufacturer's say "only appropriate for pressure of 1 bar or more..." etc... What pressure can I expect? Can it be adjusted via the PRV? Thanks

Having a water meter installed in the garden

LOL. The contractor didnt mention about fitting one in the house. He said these days they're all bluetooth. I took that as meaning they come round and take a meter reading using a bluetooth device.

Having a water meter installed in the garden

Thanks JP. Im glad it will be below ground. I'm thinking that - because Im liable for the water pipe on my boundary - if there is ever an issue with the meter then Ill be liable to pay for having it fixed (becuase ist within my boundary). Ideally the water company would have communicated with...

Having a water meter installed in the garden

Hi all, The water company had to fix a leak on the pipe just outside my boundary. They said they would fit a water meter on there while they were fixing the leak. They phoned me to say this had all been done. Fast forward a few weeks and we get a big water bill. The water company admitted that...

    Extending out a hearth

The woodburner is on its own log store, so its probably ok. (But Ill check manufacturer guidelines) At the moment its floor screed, but Im planning on having (engineered) wood.

    Extending out a hearth

Hi I have an inglenook where the hearth is about 100mm high made from very rough blockwork. I want to put a woodburner in there and Ive measured the depth of inglenook and the woodburner and I have to increase the depth of the hearth by 150mm so that it complies with having the 300mm of hearth...

    Sequential or dual control shower?

Thanks Muggles, very useful. So (just so Im sure!) with a dual control shower, as soon as you turn it on, it is hot yes? ie: you dont have to do that awkward 'cold shower dance' for the first few seconds. If the water comes out hot instantly then that its a definite plus!
