New fitted rad cold at bottomOK so I

OKso very pleased with myself, I swapped the single 700x500 rad in the bathroom for a Stelrad 700x500 P+ double. All went well, no problems and even flushing out the system seem to go just right, the water flowed clean and all the radiators got hot first time! The problem. My system is such...

Boilers heats water all the time its on

My boiler (an Ideal Classic open vented system) is set up in such a way that if the heating is on, then so is the warer - you cannot ave the water off while the heating is on. A colleague of mine said his system was like that but all you need do is change the programmer, about £50 and that...

    Flow & return valve positions

Ok thanks. And the same goes for the bleed valve - doesn't matter which side that's on (as long as it's on the top!). :D

    Flow & return valve positions

Th TRVs are quite new Drayton TR4s. I also notice that the bleed valves are oddly mixed - some on the side of the TRV others on the side of the lockshield

    Flow & return valve positions

Since embarking on my journey to replace a radiator I have been taking a more in-depth look at my system and notice that some radiators have the lockshield on the flow whilst others have them on the return. Surely this can't be right and must affect the ability to correctly balance the system...

    Almost embarrassed to ask but.....

Oops sorry for the multiple photos I found uploading these not as straightforward as I have experienced in other forums (sorry!) ... and the 'lines' don't seem to appear that link A and B to the relevant parts of interest so I hope you experts can still understand what I'm waffling on about!

    Almost embarrassed to ask but.....

I am almost ready to upgrade my bathroom radiator from a single 700x500 to a double. I have just taken delivery of my new radiator a Stelrad P+ panel radiator. My problem / question / query is regarding the 'plug' that is inserted in the inlet / outlet connection (where the valves screw-in)...

Best way to bend a pipe o this radiator installation

The current tails are approx 6 inches (plus whatever depth in the valves) there is no movement in the hole, whoever cut that floorboard di so with great accuracy! I have never annealed before, I assume it is just a matter of heat the pipe, insert a spring and in some way bend it out :?:

    Camera filters..

OK let me explain myself more and clarify a few things. Firstly in my post I do tell the OP to master the basics, get out of auto mode and learn about exposure I'd go one step further and suggest that a cheao secondhand light meter might encourage the learning curve even more. I pciked up a...

    Camera filters..

Not that I am 'puffing my chest out' but I speak as an ex-professional 'still' photographer (now a broadcast videographer) and would disagree with Woody when he supposes that you don't really need a filter as you can use software afterwards. This is not the way to go. Any adjustment to the...

Best way to bend a pipe o this radiator installation

I am about to swap an existing 700x500 single rad in the bathroon for a 700x500 double rad. I became so carried away with the idea that I did not take into account the fact that the pipes coming up through the floor to the valves will need to be about 15 - 20mm further 'out' (i.e. away from...

    Cable Runs and Loft Insulation

A friend of mine prompted me to ask this question as he has just had an extra light fitting fitted upstairs. When the electrician was in the loft he told him he would have to run the cable through conduit because the new regulations state that cable can not simply be laid loose over the top...

    consumer unit replacement

JohnW2: I think you have answered that very well indeed. I think people get a bit carried away by what a surveyor writes in his report an installation may be perfectly safe but because the chap with the clipboard writes words to the effect of "Wiring old and out of date" Johnny house-buyer...

    upgrading a radiator question

Echoes: Firstly, it is not quite as bad as it sounds, the system - being old - means that the water is always being heated as long as the heating OR water is on - i.e. you cannot select heating only - I have no idea why, but am told this was a common way to do things once upon a time as it...

    consumer unit replacement

I tell you what... these 'new' regulations are a means to print money aren't they? £5000 to rewire a house! where's that Sandbanks? I paid £1289 + VAT two years ago to include the consumer unit (£75 from screwfix, it said so on the box) and an extension to my shed. And it was signed off. As...

    upgrading a radiator question

Our CH system comprises of a gas combi boiler heating water and rads the system being the sort that has a header tank in the loft. It is also the sort that when heating the water only (i.e. in summer, not radiator heating required) the small radiator in the bathroom near the airing cupboard /...
