Switch ‘RCD Controlled Circuits’ tripping after new extension

Hi After a recent extension our fuse box trips out but I’m not sure why. The switch that trips says ‘RCD Controlled Circuits’ but non of the other labelled switches trip so I can’t identify the problem area. It only happens when we have a house full with two cookers in use, music playing...

Current day rate for painter decorator in West Midlands

Just to update on this thread for anyone that stumbles across it in future. He has settled on charging his day rate to the builder at around £180 per day. Some jobs he prices as a whole and others he calculates on the day rate if the property has a lot being done in bits and pieces. The builder...

Where can I get a large metal spacer to raise gate hinge

Hi I have just had the drive relaid and it has resulted in the garden gates catching on the drive. The hinge part of the gate is welded to the metal posts so moving the hinge up is not an option. I can lift the gates off the hinge and add a spacer to raise them about 20 mm. The question is...

Which door sensor and PIR do I need for Pyronix Enforcer?

Was just about to purchase three MC1/SHOCK-WE to use as door contacts when I read this: 'Please note that the dual functionality (magnetic contact AND shock sensor) is only compatible with Enforcer V9.13 (Week code 1914) and the EURO-ZEM32-WE V2.36 (Week Code 2414). Should you wish to install...

Current day rate for painter decorator in West Midlands

Hi What is the current day rate you would expect a painter decorator to charge in the West Midlands? My father in law is a painter decorator by trade but has only done part time weekend painting jobs for the last 10 years as he has a full time job doing something else during the week. We have...

New dimmer switches flickering with led downlights

Thanks for this info. At least I better understand what the electrician needs to be trying to do. Having looked up the two types you mention it would appear he is using trailing-edge dimmers but they are obviously not compatible with the chosen down lights/driver. I will try and find out what...

New dimmer switches flickering with led downlights

Hi Our electrician has just fitted dimmers to 4 rooms which all have multiple new LED down lights. The dimmers are not happy working with the LED’s and are doing the following: - flickering on full or dimmed settings - when dimmed some Lights go off completely and others stay on - when first...

Which door sensor and PIR do I need for Pyronix Enforcer?

Thanks both for your advice and info on the sensors. The installer does not guarantee the system or get paid an annual fee to maintain it. I simply paid them to spec and install it and then about a year ago I asked them to add two more sensors to outbuildings after they got broken into. As we...

Which door sensor and PIR do I need for Pyronix Enforcer?

Hi My wireless Enforcer is 2 years old (sorry I don't know the exact model) and I want to add another 3 door sensors and another 2 PIR's. The Pyronix website offers three options for the door sensor and even more for the PIR. The new PIR will be used in a bedrooms that are approx 4m x 3m. The...

Best place to buy 200 square meters of patio slabs

Hi All I have just measured up the patio area we want to replace around the house and it comes to an eye watering 200 square meters and possibly a bit more. I have been looking at natural stone as I want it to last a long time without losing the colour. My builder has obtained a price from his...

Under stairs shaped hot water cylinder

Update on my opening post: Tested both immersion heaters by allowing hot water to run out and then just used one immersion to reheat and both passed this test. Now running both immersions 24 hours a day at almost max temperature. This has given us some more water so two adults can now have...

How long before using underfloor heating?

Hi We have just had underfloor heating put in a room that is 6m by 6m. The screed went down on Friday and the builder has advised us to not use the heating for at least 6 weeks. We plan to put a wood floor over the top. 6 weeks sounds like a long time to let the screed dry fully. Is this...

Under stairs shaped hot water cylinder

Thanks Motman and Tony. I'm going to switch on both immersion heaters 24/7 for a week and will see how it impacts us running out of water. I'll update this post after my test. I checked the temperature settings last week and tweaked them up slightly but they were almost maxed out anyway.

Under stairs shaped hot water cylinder

There are 3 of us in the house and we run out of hot water every day even with it being heated for at least two hours by two immersion heaters prior to morning showers etc. We are a growing family so our hot water consumption will only increase. This is why we want to increase the capacity...

Under stairs shaped hot water cylinder

Is there such a thing as a triangular hot water cylinder that maximises the available space under the stairs? I can't find anything on Google so I'm pretty sure there isn't and suspect this may be due to the way they are designed to allow hot water to rise to the top. My existing tank is 180...
